Fashion & Lifestyle: F.A.O Women- The Growth Of Unwanted Hair

blank

Growing up, the topic of hair growth seems relegated to a healthy head of hair, shaving legs/armpits without cuts and perhaps trimming your eyebrows to suite your face.

I am obsessed with the topic of hair in us women which is why today the focus will be on our dark little secret: unwanted hair growth. There is an urban legend that some of our men harbour thoughts of a limitless sex drive in women who happen to have baby hair in areas like the chin.

Though, this myth can seem true if you can consider the fact that this type of growth is associated with hormones, I want us as women to own up to this issue and embrace steps to fix it.

The issue of hirtuism-hair growth in women at chin, neck, breast-deserves a spotlight. Some of our famous women stars of today suffer this secret you will never see in pictures because they spend time and precious money to get rid of the unwanted hair.

Weekly Discussion: Lets Get Talking- Social Issue: McDonalds Is Coming To Ghana In 2011, A Blessing Or A Curse? Development Or Obesity?

blank

It was reported by the Business Guide Newspaper today that some prominent Ghanaian entrepreneurs residing in UK and USA have teamed up and managed to get hold of McDonald’s franchise to start operation in Ghana.

Spots like Kotoka International Airport, Osu , Accra Mall and Spintex Road  will see the face of McDonalds in 2011.

McDonalds primarily sells french fries, soft drinks, burgers, chicken products, milks shakes (my favourite but I am not fat yet) and deserts.

Over the last few years, various health organizations in western countries where McDonalds is already in massive operation have criticized their food. Obesity is a common thing most attribute to McDonalds.

Some people have tagged McDonalds as cheap food restaurant spreading obesity and various health problems.

They are coming to our dearest Ghana. My left eye sees development, employment and cheap food on our streets. My right eye is digging deep into obesity, various health issues and

Motivational Message Of The Week: The Inverse Relationship Between Success & Smart People

blank

I have said in one of my writings (The Simple Formula To Achieving Success In Life) that achieving success is far from the everyday myth of the majority which stipulates that only smart or intelligent people can be successful in life. Read my write-up on this and you will easily grab the formula to achieving the success you desire.

In fact, the people who are highly to fail in life are smart people. You might have been thinking otherwise for a long time. The notion that success finds or comes to smart people is a typical fallacy of our contemporary society.

Success does not belong to only a category of people, smart people who happen to be in the minority in our societies. It belongs to all, especially the majority.

The reasons why smart people are likely to be trodden by success was echoed by a very successful entrepreneur of our time, Bill Gates.

Asempa Fm In Ghana’s Entertainment Show Panelist Says “ Nadia Buari Is On Point & She Is A Woman Than Jackie Appiah”. What Is Your Definition Of A Woman!

Jackie Appiah & Nadia Buari
Jackie Appiah & Nadia Buari

The fact that most radio stations, Tv stations, websites and newspapers are constantly using our stories, interviews and articles on their platforms without crediting us or paying us a dime led most of the bloggers on GhanaCelebrities.Com to tune in to Asempa Fm, a popular radio station in Ghana this morning, in an attempt to catch them in the act.

As we listened to their Saturday’s  Entertainment show hosted by Nana Hemaa, they did the usual by running and openly discussing two of our stories without crediting us or mentioning us as the source ( Intellectual stealing and copyright violation).

This post is not about Asempa Fm’s constant use of our articles without permission or  even giving thanks to us at the end of their show since Chris would be sending them a letter soon ( let Chris put what he is learning at the Law School into practice a bit), but it is about a comment one of the panelists threw out on air this morning.

Love & Relationship Advice: He Did Not Tell Me About His Daughter For Six Months & He Is Not Consistent,I Am Confused…What Should I Say?

blank

Dear GC Readers,

I’m 25 years old and in a relationship with a 27 year old guy. We have been going out for a year now. I love him very much but I’m very scared to trust his words.

Six month into the relationship he confessed he has a daughter with a lady he dated before but the lady is now dead. When I asked why he didn’t tell me all this time, he told me he wanted to be sure of the woman he is going out with first.

He then said when he was sure he was scared  that I might leave him because of that. I thought about it and decided to continue dating him.

My problem now is, he is not consistent, he says one thing today then tomorrow he says another. I only know his brother and I haven’t seen his daughter yet.

Weekly Discussion, Let’s Get Talking: Western World’s Supremacy, The Blackman’s Inferiority…

blank

It is obvious and undisputed that the coming of the Whiteman to Africa has done more harm than good.

Apart from the fact that the early White men who landed on the shores of Africa were able to enlighten us to grow and hate our own selves, religion and way of doing things, they also succeeded in injecting a huge dose of “Inferiority” into our subliminal minds.

I do not want to jeopardise the direction of  this post by going into the various ways by which the Whiteman was able to “conscientize” our forefathers to throw away so many of our effective practices such as religion, governance, etc that worked perfectly well for them over years before the former’s coming to accord supremacy to the Whiteman’s  custom. Most of our practices were labelled evil, antique and ungodly.

Motivational Message Of The Week: Achieving “Ultimate Success” In Life

blank

It is very fulfilling and satisfactory to achieve success in whatever project we undertake in life. The feeling is even more awesome if you have once failed and have then had the guts to rise out of failure to achieve the success you have always wanted.

The ultimate wonderment of success is never seen in the accomplished output but resides deep in our hearts. Achieving success to some of us is to portray to others how thriving we are when it comes to whatever project we are working on but success goes beyond being seen as an accomplisher among your peers or certain group of persons.

Our want for success and greatness always leads us into chasing projects which we envisage as rewarding, thereby neglecting the imperative elements of our livelihood “Love, Belief & Passion”.

Success would have a more meaningful structure if it is not the sole reason why we embark on projects. Achieving success with any work done is satisfying, but it becomes “ultimate” when it naturally comes out of us doing what we love and believe in.

Blog: The Things We Take For Granted As Africans & Ghanaians, I Am Guilty, What About You?

My Seafood In Brighton (Lobster)
My Seafood In Brighton (Lobster)

I have always recognized that Africa and for that matter Ghana is auspiciously blessed with so many things that money and power cannot purchase.

As another Ghanaian out there, despite the fact that I am sentient of the beauty of our naturally endowed landscapes, water bodies and their astonishing features, this has not stopped me from taking these things for granted.

It is quite normal and nothing spectacular to many that live in Ghana to visit the seaside (beach) and enjoy some of the fresh sea food that we fall on whiles at the coast or beach.

The ease at which we get access to the various beaches in Ghana and Africa together with the little we pay out to enjoy the diverse delicious seafood out there have not given us enough reasons to reflect on certain things which would enable us to fully appreciate how blessed we are as Ghanaians to have these things at our door steps.

It would not be that bad if it is just about our failure to appreciate that which nature has blessed us with, most of us are and have taken these naturally provided facilities for granted.

R2Bees’ Kiss Your Hand Music Video Doesn’t Have The ‘Wow’ Factor

Killbeatz, Paedae and Muggees

I have struggled to put my thoughts about the R2bees & Wande Coal “Kiss Your Hand Music Video” video on paper. It has not been easy arriving at these words. What you are about to read is solely my thoughts about the video, like I have always done, I will be saying what I think went wrong.

When I did a story prior to the premiere and launch of the video I said “…. the music is too loud to get everyone’s attention”. Indeed the music is loud, it’s a kind of music everyone would want to dance to. It has a heavy beat and some crazy punch lines which makes it one of the best tunes from Ghana.

Fashion & Lifestyle: Preserve Your Outer Beauty With Care

blank

I have heard so many times that beauty comes from the inside but that does not mean one should not preserve the outer beauty as well.

Do you know whether you have a dry, normal or oily skin type? These are some of the questions worth asking yourself when investing in skin and beauty products. Don’t just think expensive skin products will do all the work for you and give you the exact result you are looking for without knowing your skin type. Although one should be cautious, experimenting with different types of skin products is an ideal way of choosing the right product just for you. This should take place after one has discovered his or her skin type.

Some people find the right beauty product without any problems and others have to go great length before finding the right product. It took me a while to find the right foundation that suits my skin type and colour.

Weekly Discussion: Let’s Get Talking: Are Black People Our Own Enemies?

blank

The most iniquitous thing among humanity is self destruction and self hatred. Being your own enemy sounds impossible but it is wilfully in existence among human beings.

When we talk about being your own enemy, it encompasses hating your own kind and this is very widespread among black people. Most black people, either from different nations or same nation do not get on at all.

Let us look at our immediate social surroundings, work places, schools and universities as well as our communities, the very people actively pulling black people down the ladder of success is our own people. (I call this inner racial hatred).

Love & Relationship Advice: My Boyfriend Doesn’t Want Me To Meet His Friends & Family, I Am So Confused!

blank

Dear GC Readers,

My name is Ana and I’m 25 years of age old. I’ve been in a relationship with a certain guy for a year.

I haven’t met his family before but I know their names and what they do, he knows my uncle and auntie but anytime I ask when am going to meet at least his siblings he always says I should have patience.

I have seen his mum before but from a distance.  His father I have not met also but I hear his voice anytime I visit him at his home.

Anytime we are together he talks about marriage and the number of kids he would like us to have and the home he would like for us. Despite this I feel uncomfortable in the relationship since I don’t really know anybody close to him, more so he is about to travel.

I really want to know somebody close to him because I don’t know any of his friends, so I tried to find my way around and got to meet a friend of his.

My guy eventually denied being close to this friend and that he is just a friend he talks to in passing or just says hi to.  My boyfriend then said I should stop being friends with him.

Through that friend I got to meet his younger brother who seems to be a nice person but when my guy got to know that I have been speaking with his brother, he asked me to stop being friends with him too.

Fashion & Lifestyle: 2 Ways to Make your Own T-Shirts

blank

In a world of consumerism often times the art of creating with our own hands is left for the gifted and talented. Long gone are the days that we sit with friends and make flutes out of the leaves of coconut trees. I am sure you miss creating that special fan or a hand held broom made from the leaves of palm-nut tree branches.

I quite remember a time that my cousin was the best at creating a battery operated toy car with recycled milk cans, chale-wate(flip-flops). Our hands when encouraged can bring a smile to our faces, which is why by the end of this article you will learn how to create your own stylish shirt.

Items needed are:

  • T-shirt
  • Scissors

Funky cut up t-shirts are a fun easy way to have fun with a boring plain jersey. Place the t-shirt on a flat surface, have a pair of scissors on hand envision your t-shirt creation. The collar of the shirt can be shaped in a semi circle, triangular, jagged or left as is; just remember to cut it short in the beginning to curtail undesired results. Transforming the sleeves can mean cutting spaghetti-strap sized strands towards the edge of the seam.

Blog:The Fear Of Failure Cripples Success , How To Overcome This Fear

blank

Many have come to recognise and accept that the greatest enemy of mankind is our own minds personified by the fear of failure. Even the strongest minds of our time cannot swank of there not being a single time where the fear of failure has curtailed their thoughts on achieving that which they believe in.

The fear of failure is a natural disease living with the human mind. Its precincts are not restricted and can far stretch to affect anything we set our minds on to achieve. It strikes like an authoritative thunder which sets out in a clear light what would happen should you fail on a desire journey of progress.

As if you are not already aware, you would constantly be reminded of the fact that the money you holding in pursuit of your investment is not yours. And you would be in deep anguish should something goes wrong which is highly likely to happen, the fear of failure would tell your mind.

Motivational Message Of The Week:

Wole Soyinka
Wole Soyinka

“The hand that dips into the bottom of the pot will eat the biggest snail” Wole Soyinka

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..

This week’s motivational message is pulled from the highly intellectual mind of the Nigerian Novelist, Nobel Prize Winner and Poet-Wole Soyinka.

As a follow African who is so much informed about the ways and attributes of his people, Soyinka by the above quote seeks to instill into us the spirit of achieving full success, the desire to attain the highest as opposed to settling for the least.

Our way of life as Africans is shadowed with celebrating mediocrity. We settle for the least that comes our way instead of going for the optimum.

Fashion & Lifestyle: How To Grow Healthy Hair

blank

Below are the top three ways men and women keep and grow healthy hair( they are simple yet most people do not know). While there are other factors (environment, genetics), I’d prefer to focus only on these three points.

  • Condition your hair every week
  • Eat well balanced meals
  • Exercise

Conditioning helps pump moisture into your scalp. Think of your scalp as the top layer of your body, you would not leave it ashen and dry would you? Well, your scalp deserves tender care as well and the conditioner will help. A friend of mine puts mayonnaise in her hair citing moisture concerns-that is too extreme.

I want to encourage drinking a lot of water especially if you wear weaves, braids or threading. Foods rich in vegetables (fiber) contribute to your hair recycling out the weak old hair and encouraging new growth. There are dermatologists (expert of skin) and cosmetologists (expert of beauty) that advocate a multi-vitamin such as B-complex, even neo-natals but once again that is extreme. I would not want our male readers to ingest pills meant for pregnant women.

The human body naturally needs to release energy, nutrients within the body travels all over your body benefiting hair. Exercises rich in upper-body movement such as sit-ups, arm-stretches welcome nutrients to the cells that encourage hair-growth.

Africans have a variety of hair textures, our common hair history proves if it is your desire to have healthy hair growth it is very possible. Hair science has shown we are capable of maintaining 6inches of hair every year.

Love & Relationship Advice: My Best Friend’s Wife Says She Loves Me & Ready To Jilt her Problem Husband for Me, I am Confused….

Dear Gc Readers,

I am a single Dad in my late 20’s and living with my 5 year old child. I have a close married friend with a child of same age as my son. Due to the two kids, I spend some of my weekends at my friend’s house with his family to allow the two children play together.

A few months ago, I was working and taking up a professional web development course at a College to enable me become a freelance web developer. I lost my job when I was at the finishing end of my course. My job loss meant that I could not finance the course and had to drop out.

My friend’s wife is a professional web developer and the very person who suggested the course to me in the first place. As I couldn’t continue the course at the college, she offered to help me finish the few units I was left with.
