Behind the glamour and the stardom of being a celebrity lies the opportunity to help the underprivileged in society. However, not so many Ghanaian celebrities are in tune with this idea of factoring into their fortune, the desire and the need to help others.
3rd February was the birthday of the Ghanaian charming Actor “John Dumelo” and to commemorate this day, he stepped into Baayire, a village which lies 2 hours drive away from Wa in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
At a school in Baayire, John Dumelo made a presentation of books, pencils, pens, erasers, chalks, crayons and others. Also, the Actor shared biscuits and soft drinks with the pupils as part of celebrating his birthday with them.
The entertainment industry in Ghana has seen tremendous growth over the last couple of years as seen in the increasing number of entertainment options open to patrons of all ages.
If the number of events organized in December of 2010 alone is anything to go by, then one can confidently say that the entertainment industry is well on its way to stating a case for itself to be recognized not only in Ghana but across the sub-region.
Miss Ghana 2010 winner Stephanie Karikari is set to start her project work on women empowerment later this month.
The 19 year old would take to the ghettos and slums in search of deprived and destitute women whose living conditions impact negatively on their children. She would attempt, through the kind donation of her sponsors and well-meaning Ghanaians, to bring relief and assistance to them.
Like I said, I’m still learning the Ewe language because of Ayigbe Edem but meanwhile just watch this and tell me what you think about his creativity. Simply put, he meets a girl in a shopping mall, to get the girl’s attention; he decides to rap about any product the girl picks. How interesting! Don’t … Read more

Juliet Ibrahim is the only actress among the four actresses that won the SUV Zoyte who has constantly been attacked by a cross section of the public for what they term as her ‘amateur’ acting skills. Several qualities makes one a good actress in the eyes of many, beauty is one of them and this, the light skinned actress has plentifully.
One of the rudiments of a good actress has to do with facial expression. This in addition to her acting kills according to the general public has been her weak point.
On December 25, 2010, Juliet Ibrahim was announced as the Best Actress in Leading Role alongside Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Okoro and Roselyn Ngissah for their roles in the 4Play movie, which also starred notable faces like Majid Michel, John Dumelo and Omar Sheriff Captain.

According to the below report by Dailyguide, some individuals of the Ghana movie industry and close friends of young actress “Yvonne Nelson” are hatching a master plane to bring her career to an abrupt end (crush her career).
Yvonne Nelson seems to be making “lot of news” recently and I hope she can capitalize on the publicity (either bad or good) to sell out something to the public. In fact, there is nothing like bad publicity in showbiz even.

Ghana’s celebrated Artiste of the Year 2009, Okyeame Kwame, is set to stage a much-awaited comeback with his latest album, after almost three years of no such activity.
This, however, is to be preceded with a much-anticipated video-shoot of one of the songs on the album, titled Faithful, which incidentally is enjoying massive airplay in Kumasi even ahead of its official release in February.
It would be recalled that the Kumasi-based artiste has used the years after his 2009 album, Woso, to complete his tertiary education at the Kwame University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and also commit resources and attention to his social responsibility (i.e. Hepatitis B Foundation) which has since provided free medical care to about 2,500 compatriots nationwide.
But after a three years hiatus, the rapper is fired up to hit the music scene again with another sensational album, with the video-shoot of the Faithful slated for Saturday, 5th Feb, in Accra.
Below is a new music video from OJ Blaq featuring Iwan, the track is ‘Target’.
Many a times, I have asked myself what defines a true celebrity and what is expected of them from the society and country as a whole. Doctors are expected to cure, carpenters to fix furniture, Drivers to take people to their destinations and so on.
From my understanding, a celebrity is generally a person in society who is famous or known by the widest number of people in that particular society. Oops, I just answered myself.
Some of the country’s finest music Super Stars are said to star at this year’s Save a Heart Music Fest 2011 to rock the Accra International Conference Centre.
The festival which will take place at the Dome of the Conference Centre Saturday, February 5, is being organized by The Golden Hearts Trust (GHT), a foundation for children with heart conditions.
I think Nadia Buari should immediately fire her newly hired USA based publicist else she will sink and kill her career as an Actress. I have seen bad managers and publicists killing the career of talented stars in showbiz and I hope Nadia Buari does become a victim else her Hollywood ambition will never materialize.
You may be wondering why I am saying this. Last Sunday, a certain lady who claims to be a publicist based in USA and hired by Ghanaian star Actress Nadia Buari contacted me.
I was extremely excited about this since to me, Nadia Buari over the years have not been in a high-quality relationship with most media houses, this has even lead to a lot of people wrongly holding the belief that the actress is a total snob or has a cold attitude.
Nairobi the capital city of Kenya will come alive on February 25th and February 26th 2011 when leading Nollywood practitioners and their counterparts from other Africa countries that have submitted entries for this year edition of Africa Movie Academy Awards will converge on the East Africa nation for the nomination night.
The event which will take place on Friday Night at the Laico Regency Hotel will be attended by Joke Silva and her husband Olu Jacobs alongside Rita Dominic, Mercy Johnson, Ini Edo, Mike Monsuruye, Ghanaian Jackie Appiah, Lynda Forson, Kate Henshaw Nuttal and Mike Ezeronye among others who have signified their intention to attend the event.
It was the remarkable 5th edition of Citizen Kofi’s ‘THE COMEDY SHOW’ which was patronized by very high officials, The former President J. A. Kuffuor and the Thank God It’s Friday (TGIF) host K.S.M, who were all seated waiting to be tickled with comedy and mesmerized with sensational poetry.
The night witnessed very great comedians from the Ghana Comedians Network; a group spearheaded by David Oscar featuring talents such as Funny Face, Foster, Nii Tettey, Percy, David Aglah and lastly the Sexy comedian DKB.
About an hour and a half into the show the sexy comedian was introduced to rock the stage and as usual he entered with his sig tune “I wanna rock right now” in his version “I wanna fool right now”, this version always gets the audience smiling before he would utter a word, he started with an observation he made of poets reciting poems in English and Akuapim and he enquired how a poem about owing someone would be in Ga, well your guess was right-full of insults and beatings.
According to Myjoyonline and Nigeriafilms.Com, Ghanaian Actress Yvonne Nelson has been slapped with 1 year ban in Nigeria.
Even though the Actress is currently said to be serving 2 years ban in Ghana, she recently told NewsOne that she has not been banned. According to Yvonne, she has not received any official letter from FIPAG imposing a ban on her and therefore she is not officially aware of any ban on her as an actress.
When I thought the whole Yvonne Nelson ban saga was a thing of last year, she is in the news again for another ban slammed on her far in Nigeria. I do not get the direction of this report ( seems like it is the same Ghana incident being wrongly reported ) but if you care to know, then Read below for more….

I guess Leila Djansi’s head is spinning as she constantly comes in contact with various Actors and Actresses who seem not to have a clue about what it takes to become a star.
The Ace Director/Scriptwriter seems to be far pushed by certain incidents and has therefore taking time to write her “professional frustration” down for Ghanaian Actors and upcoming ones to know what is really expected from them.
In her piece, she mentions Nadia Buari and Ama K Aberese as good actresses though she acknowledges that there are more out there unmentioned. Below is what Leila Djansi wrote down with the caption “A Scene In A Movie Can Make You A Star. Little Drops Of Water”
This is getting really redundant. I am almost disappointed. This note is to all my Ghanaian actors. Please, help me make sure they all read it.
Does Forest Gump bring any memories? anyone seen it? yeah? Remember “Uncle Bubba”? Uncle Bubba was played by Mykelti Williamson. (Brian Hastings on 24). He had one scene opposite Tom Hanks. Today he is known in every household as uncle bubba. One scene.
When I give an actor a script and they say things like: only these scenes? how many scenes?, there are a lot of scenes oh or will there be more scenes, I get discouraged working with the person. I feel you are not an actor. You have just settled into the profession not knowing why you are there or what it means. That to me translates into you can not understand and become a character.
According to a report by Ameyaw Debrah, star Actress Jackie Appiah who has just return from Nigeria has apologized to her fans, the organizers of the Ghana Movie Awards and her co-award winning Actresses for failing to make it to last Tuesday’s car prize presenting ceremony.

Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana (MPEG), a new awards scheme to honour Ghanaian professionals in the fields of music, football, boxing, movie, theatre and broadcasting has been launched in Accra.
Like any other awards scheme, MPEG is to commend and honour individuals in the above mentioned disciplines who excelled in 2010. It is a cross-discipline honours and not aiming at competing with any existing or upcoming awards scheme.
The MPEG College which is made up of professionals and watchers of the various disciplines in Ghana use their experience and active involvement in their chosen fields last year to nominate those who most excelled. The public then would be called upon to help choose the finalists and then the ultimate entertainer in 2010 through text and online voting.
It is a slow weekend for me and as such I have decided to let you guys know that Yvonne Okoro, one of the recipients of the ‘Best Actress’ award at the recent Ghana Movie Awards, has dismissed her manager, Naa Konadu.
Speculation has been rife for some time that the two were not on best terms, despite their professional demeanour. However, whilst speaking to Ghana’s Multi-TV , Yvonne stated that the primary reason that the two had been experiencing difficulties with regards to their working relationship, was because Naa Konadu had other engagements to attend to, henceforth limiting her from placing her full focus on Yvonne’s career.
The way some us step out of our houses to attend national and public events is just ridiculous. What do you think is wrong with the following photos? These were captured at last month’s Ghana Movie Awards. If you have not seen them yet, then here we go… ……………… Photos Credit: PeaceFm
