The Ghanaian or African movie industry as a whole is plagued with the same old faces; new promising talents are not given the prospect of exhibiting their hidden talents.

The just ended Ghana Music Awards 2010 confirmed once again that the awards do not follow any logic; aside the controversy, the awards encountered some lapses in respect of security, which was poor, innocent fans who had flocked the venue to catch a glimpse of their favourite artistes also suffered in the hands of the bouncers brought in from Togo who hardly speak any English; for once they forgot they were dealing with human beings.
Regardless of all this low points, the show was a success and Sarkodie deservedly emerged as the Artiste of the Year. The awards in the Dome at the Accra International Conference Centre saw the dynamic duo Bradez, track ‘Simple’ being adjudged as the Most Popular Song of the Year.
Over the last few days, some news media outlets in Ghana have been rife with speculation that the prolific, albeit controversial hiplife artist, Mzbel, had recently gotten married to a Nigerian man, known as Mr Chucks.
This unfounded rumour was first published by newly established newspaper network, Newsone. Following the publication of these unfounded allegations, various other Ghanaian media outlets also began to publish the same story, without ascertaining its credibility.
There is a new rap superstar in town- Sarkodie defeated Okyeame Kwame to be crowned ‘Artiste of the Year’ at last night’s Ghana Music Awards.
Last year’s winner of the ‘Artiste of the Year,’ ‘Hip-Hop Song of the Year,’ ‘Hip-Hop/Hiplife Artist of the Year,’ and ‘Video of the Year’ categories, Okyeame Kwame had to settle for announcing the name of the winner: “The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he declared, before announcing that Sarkodie was the new owner of his previous title- ‘Artiste of the Year.’
The new ‘Artiste of the Year’ winner was also the biggest winner of the night, taking home further trophies for ‘Hiplife/Hip-Hop Artiste of the Year,’ ‘Best Rapper of the Year,’ ‘Album of the Year,’ and also ‘Discovery of the Year.’ Yet, it was his popular track ‘Baby’ featuring Muggies of R2Bees that ensured that he was crowned ‘Artiste of the Year,’ in recognition of the song’s success.
