Call Me on Phone For Your Ghana Movie Awards Plaques Says Fred Nuamah

Razz1
Razz Newspaper

Razz Newspaper is reporting that, the founder of Ghana Movie Awards has instructed anyone who has not received his or her plaque as a winner of any of the awards’ editions should call him and pick up one.

The Newspaper contacted Fred Nuamah when veteran actress-Grace Nortey made it clear on radio some few days ago, that she has not yet received an award she won in 2012.

Check below for the conversation the Newspaper had with Fred Nuamah. Razz Newspaper comes out every Wednesday so don’t forget to grab a copy.

line

For the Ghana Movie Awards, every year comes with accompanying issues and controversies; from poor organization of the event to winners not receiving their plaques/statuettes – the awards make the headlines for the very bad reasons.

Legendary actress, Grace Nortey shockingly disclosed on Peace FM’s ‘Entertainment Review’ last week that she has not received any statuette for an award she won at the 2011 Ghana Movie Awards.

The actress’s disclosure follows other complaints from other winners of the same awards show who have over the years, expressed their contempt in not receiving their statuettes, months and years after being announced winners.

Razz Newspaper got hold of the founder of the Ghana Movie Awards, Mr. Fred Nuamah and had a dialogue with him on the various issues that have dogged the awards.

Razz (R): We seem to have issues every year with the Awards.  People think, such issues are engineered deliberately to generate some hype for the Awards.

Fred Nuamah (FN): It is not true that the GMA does it for publicity. The situation of plaques taking some time before they are handed to winner is not peculiar to the GMA. You can find out from Samini or Sarkodie about how long it took for the organizers of MOBO and BET to present their awards to them. We at GMA want to put the names of the winners on the statuettes and since the winners are not pre-determined, we can only put the names on after the awards, so, what we usually give them on the night of the awards show are dummies. We have learnt lessons with regards to the statuette taking long to get to winners so next year, we will inform all nominees that if they want the awards to be presented to them as winners without the names on it or otherwise, although we think it is nice to have names of winners encrypted on the plaques.

Now I understand why my boyfriend always fights me when he is hungry and the moment he is full, he will run to watch football or some damn kung-fu movie as if I do not exist. I only get attention (bad one) when he is hungry…

Hervé Chigioni and his graphic designer Gilles Frappier have based the poster design for the 67th Festival de Cannes on a photogram taken from Federico Fellini’s , which was presented in the Official Selection in 1963.

In Marcello Mastroianni and Federico Fellini, we celebrate a cinema that is free and open to the world, acknowledging once again the artistic importance of Italian and European cinema through one of its most stellar figures.

“The way he looks at us above his black glasses draws us right in to a promise of global cinematographic happiness,” explains the poster’s designer. “The happiness of experiencing the Festival de Cannes together.”

And the GREATEST Concert is Back-Ghana Meets Naija 2014 | Sarkodie, Davido, Guru, Lilwin, Wizboyy & Others to Perform…

Ghana Meets Naija 2014
Ghana Meets Naija 2014

Last year, it was the greatest concert of the year —and so was it the year before.  This year, it is back again with our best Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians who are more than ready to thrill music lovers with great performances.

In my review of Ghana Meets Naija last year, though I struggled to find appropriate words to describe the magnitude of professionalism and fun the concert brought Ghanaian and Nigerian music lovers, I stated that;

“I think I am not far from right if I call ‘Ghana Meets Naija’ the highest, the hippest and probably the hoppest concert on the Ghanaian event calendar. It has rejuvenated that special thing about African music—-hitting you hard with no pain.

Without any doubt, the organizers have successful redefined how music and performance should be delivered at African concerts—making it more fun, secured, comfortable and extensively interactive with incredible social media participation.

Quick and ahead of their competitors, they’ve realized the power and meaning of social media interactions.”

At Empire Entertainment’s offices in Accra yesterday, a Press briefing was held to bring the media on board to take this year’s event to a different level.

This year’s edition of Ghana Meets Naija will be held at Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday 24th May 2014 and as usual, it is only the greatest that will mount the stage. Sarkodie will lead a host of Ghanaian musicians including, Guru, Castro and Lilwin to face Davido, Kcee and Wizboyy of ‘Wizolingo’ fame from Nigerian.

As expected of every great competition, both countries will bring in other talented musicians to surprise music lovers and to tilt the winning rod to their side. To me, Nigeria was the winner last year and I can’t wait to see what will happen this year…

Ama K Abebrese1
Ama K Abebrese

Ghanaian actress-Ama K Abebrese and others are working on a campaign to encourage people to love their natural skin tone…

According to a message Ama K Abebrbese sent out;  the “campaign is not about pointing fingers as to who has bleached or has not bleached their skin. Its a campaign that aims to uplift Africans to love our natural skin; and see beauty in the many hues and unique skin that we are born with. Not to judge”.

It looks like the skin bleaching enterprise is about to the crashed—and I mean for good. You know my position when it comes to skin bleaching so I will be definitely be  supporting it. If nothing at all, I think I have written more articles on skin bleaching than any Ghanaian out there that I know of…

Lifestyle Guide: Do You Love Turkish Food? Try Gokyuzu and Kervan in North London, UK

Gokyuzu and Kervan in North London
Gokyuzu and Kervan in North London

I don’t think I ask much when it comes to choosing a great place to eat out but for me an ideal restaurant is one where you get to sit in an attractive environment whilst eating a good meal that’s also good for you. Then at the end of the night you can pull out your purse or wallet without squinting at the bill…like I was saying I don’t ask for much!

It was definitely a delicious treat when me and the girls decided to try out a new local Turkish restaurant in North London Woodgreen, Gokyuzu and Kervan. Don’t let the ‘local’ get to you, it’s anything but local food.

As you can imagine North London is not shy of several other Turkish restaurants to choose from, in fact on the very same road, there are another two Turkish restaurants I’ve also tried. However the classy looking eatery of Gokyuzu and Kervan lures you in as you are given a view of the take away section of delicious and savoury looking food on display that can be spied from outside of the restaurant.

An already established food chain, the popular Kervan restaurant is known for its delicious menus to most in North London. It’s a mix of Mediterranean foods such as meats, salads, humus Turkish seasoned bread and buckwheat roasted in seasoned plum tomato sauce…it really is just GOOD food.

I was more than impressed with the setting and environment, very classy and the service was great. It’s also plush enough for a b-day, anniversary or first date.

There were 3 very lively birthdays happening on the top second floor…it got lively, perfect Saturday night out. However if you prefer it a bit calmer then the lower ground was a lot more low-key.

I love the Turkish food custom of providing the starters of tzatziki, humus and Turkish bread that you’re not billed for.

Leave MUSIGA the HECK Alone & Fix Your Individual Career Issues

Obour MUSIGA President
Obour MUSIGA President

Over the last few weeks, several Ghanaian musicians have thrown punches at MUSIGA, a non-compulsory Union which boost of membership strength of over 4 thousand Ghanaian musicians.

When it comes to MUSIGA, it is either a Ghanaian musician is throwing insults at them for non-performance or another industry person is rendering the Union useless. The criticisms and jabs have increased astronomically over the last few years, probably, because of the 2M GHS which was handed over to them for the betterment of the whole creative art industry.

I am personally not a fan of MUSIGA or any of the numerous Ghanaian creative art associations and I don’t give a hoot about Obour and his executives—because the truth is, just like the Ghanaian government, most of these associations are a MESSS!

Without being contemptuous, let me add that, the musicians and the industry players themselves do not have any sense of career direction and yet they continue to unfairly punch MUSIGA—simply because they are not part of the gang of people sharing whatever is at stake.

Most Ghanaian musicians make so much noise and yet, they continue to produce garbage which they call songs and when frustration sets in, they go around blaming others like MUSIGA for failing to help them achieve their goals.

Let’s leave MUSIGA aside for just a minute…Can you tell me any of these Ghanaian musicians who is doing anything worth a real push or which of them is making a real effort for that international break through which will bring the needed success?

Ask any of them known for throwing insults at MUSIGA this simple question; what do you want MUSIGA to do and you will hear lots of gobbledygook, as if MUSIGA is their record label or an agency supposed to manage their careers for them.

In fact, most of these Ghanaian musicians have no careers. They need to find some job to do and do so real quick, because their approach to music will not make them anything, probably except being local champions—and MUSIGA cannot take them out of their compounding misery.

For Christ sake, MUSIGA is not a de-facto Union, you can decide to join or not and if anything at all, those throwing insults can come together and form a ‘perfect union’. The last time I checked, Ghanaians still have freedom of association as a constitutional right.

The cry has always been, there is no music industry in Ghana—- I cannot debate this since the needed structures are not in existence. Similarly, I can say, there is no proper musician in Ghana since the vital attributes of a real musician are missing in most of these so called Ghanaian musicians.

Why Are Females Not Doing Standup Comedy in Ghana? Female ‘Showbizers’ Share Their Opinions

Comedy
Comedy

Some females are quite excelling in various forms of Ghana’s art and entertainment industry, but, in the world of comedy, it appears no female is ready to risk the adventure.

The issue of the bedraggled state of Ghana’s comedy industry has been discussed on almost every entertainment program across the country. Spotting the light on standup comedy, the gender that is dominating is the males.

The question therefore is; where are the females? As much as the females are fiercely competing with males in the other forms of our art and entertainment industry, they are totally missing when it comes to the comedy fraternity.

Currently, there’s no female standup comedian in Ghana. All the standup comedians are males – David Oscar, Funny Face, Khemical, Percy, James Brown, DKB and others. Our neighbouring country, Nigeria, can at least boast of celebrated female standup comedians such as; Lakpacious, Mandy, Helen, Princess and others (though there could be more I’m not privy to). It is on record that Mandy is the first female who started standup comedy in Nigeria.

Females in the Ghana’s art and entertainment or showbiz industry are playing pivotal roles and are excelling in other fields of our art industry. Taking film making for instance; Shirley Frimpong Manson and Leila Afua Djansi are both doing phenomenal!

Turning the radar to music; we have the likes of Akosua Agyapong, Cecilia Marfo, Eazzy, Efya, Becca, Kaakie, etc. all doing excellent! Ama Atta Aidoo and Efua T. Sutherland have put Ghana on the international scene as far as storytelling – through play or drama and novels is concerned!

On the movie or acting front are: Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Nelson, Nadia Buari, Martha Ankomah, Yvonne Okoro, etc. In broadcasting circles are Doreen Andoh, Gifty Anti, and Jessica Opare Saforo; who are top-drawer female broadcasters in Ghana.

The apropos questions worth mulling over are: don’t females in Ghana have strong comedy incisions? Are they scared or intimidated by the savvy jest and wit of the male standup comedians? Are they afraid of being called “fools” as some ignoramuses’ term comedians in Ghana? Or are they simply not given the opportunity?

PHOTO: The Return of the Louis Vuitton Queen-Yvonne Nelson

Yvonne Nelson1
Yvonne Nelson

For those of you who thought Yvonne Nelson has given in to pressure and has therefore gotten rid of the many Louis Vuitton bags suspected to be fakies—-she is still hanging on them.

Over the years,  LV bags being carried by these celebrities in Ghana have lost the initial ‘high fashion status’ since most are straight from China. Conforming this, an insider-Prince David Osei, a Ghanaian actor once stated on TV that, most of the Louis Vuitton bags his colleagues carry around are FAKE.

And in fact if one person is holding about 4 of these bags just at one point in time and has many sizes of them at home, then surely we know where they are coming from…

Merging Energy and Culture, MOVE-Another Great Music Video from Becca with Appearances By Legendary African musicians-Yvonne Chaka Chaka & Hughes Hugh Masekela

Becca
Becca

I have maintained the argument that, Ghanaian songstress-Becca (real name Rebecca Acheampong) is a pace-setter, with a non-extinguishing desire to make an indelible musical mark in Ghana and beyond.

Over the years, Becca has affirmed my position and that of many Ghanaian music lovers, that she does not just have a unique talent but also, possesses the energy, commitment, desire and the industry connections need to take her music to the next level.

Last year, Becca released a video for her second studio album’s title track-Time for Me which was shot in Japan, and I said at the time that “nothing of such quality has been seen in Ghana”.

Being part of an industry where many of the artistes are struggling with creativity and career directions seems not to have any sort of negative bearing on Becca, considering the quality of songs and music videos she keeps pushing our way.

On Friday, Becca’s latest single-MOVE featuring Uhuru of ‘Khona’ fame was given the first airplay on Bola Ray’s Drive Time on Joy fm and it was worth the long wait.

As the Editor of GhanaCelebrities.Com, I have had the privilege to watch the music video of Becca’s newest single-MOVE ahead of its release, and I am amazed at the standard and the perfect fusion of African traditional dance with the exciting strings of energy the song gives out…

Legendary African musicians Yvonne Chaka Chaka & Hughes Hugh Masekela made prominent appearances in the video—and I am told they did so, simply because they adore Becca’s talent and career direction. Who wouldn’t?

Wanlov the Kubolor and Mensa-(FOKN BOIS) Music or Absurdity? | Video of the Two Putting Their DING DONG on Full Display…

FOKN BOIS
FOKN BOIS

My mind is heavy this morning…

I love African artistes. I celebrate the push and strife of many Africans into international recognition. It is a thing I am exceedingly proud of. So I am in equal measure, very wounded when we use those platforms to embarrass and ridicule the image of Ghanaians.

We all know the FOKN BOIS. We all know they have their own style and have categorized themselves as controversial. I appreciate their artistic efforts. I also happen to appreciate tasty n*dity in art.

But when I watched the below video of the FOKN BOIS perambulating their ding dongs in Coz Ov Moni Part 2, that is supposed to go international and represent the Ghanaian image, I was assailed by a combination of emotions. Of dread, disdain, pity, trepidation, shame?

I am totally lost. The video has been out for a while and most of you might have seen it, if not you can see it below. What is the essence of all that much n*dity in the video? And the ladies, where did they find them from, so eager and willing to care their bosoms to everyone…

What were they thinking when they put this together? Is this supposed to be a work of art or is this supposed to stir up some international interest and get them an interview on CNN which they will ignorantly translate into success? Stardom?

Relationships Have Turned Some Women into Gangsters…Fighting Over Men!

Angry-Black-Woman

The quest to keep the ‘loved one’ close has turned ladies into gangsters – always ready to fight any girl they see around ‘their man’. There are some ladies you cannot enter some restaurants with because they’ve engaged in series of fight out there in the past.

A lady will jump into a cab (if you refuse them a lift) to a guy’s house because another woman is there – why don’t you tie him around your waist…Why stress yourself over somebody?

The adversity women choose to endure in something as optional as relationship baffles me.  If you’re always fighting and warding off women because your guy has got a larger than life appetite for women, you better fasten your seat belt because what you’re seeing is what you’re getting and you can’t be fighting all the days of your life.

A man that wants to be kept will be kept even with very little effort and the one that has his mind set on wandering will, regardless. No matter how long you fight to hold on to something, if it isn’t yours, you will lose it someday. Take a chill pill – the person you’re always fighting for/over may not even be worth it after all.
