Pratt Joins Many Ghanaians To Warn Gov’t Against Sponsoring Anyone To Brazil 2014 World Cup

If paying huge sums of money as wages to men kicking balls around a field is not enough waste of resource, a struggling country like Ghana paying further huge sums of money to sponsors people to go and watch these men should definitely be seen as a waste, even by the fanatics.

In line with on-going economic hardship in Ghana, Kwesi Pratty and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asokwa-Maxwell Kofi Jumah have joined the many Ghanaians who are calling on the Government not to waste state resource on sponsoring people to 2014 WorldCup, to be held in Brazil.

If anyone wants to go to Brazil to watch the Black stars play, they can surely go but why must the Government foot the bill when we could channel that money towards fixing some of the many problems we have in Ghana?

The truth is that, the real football supporters are never sponsored to attend such tournaments. The Government in power’s party supporters are those who benefit from the sponsorship.

During the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa, quite a colossal amount of money was used by government to airlift soccer fanatics to South Africa; a decision which later became a major issue of discussion.

The joy that accompanied Ghana’s qualification for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is yet to die down with most football fans dreaming of going to Brazil to be part of the fiesta.
