The death of Hiplife artiste-Castro De Destroyer, is really bringing up different issues. Spiritualists, musicians, and all sorts of people are adding their voices to the talk of town. We are still waiting on Nana Kwaku Bonsam and the popular ‘goat beard’ fake prophet to speak…

Over 25million Ghanaians (both home and abroad) are paying close attention to what is going on in connection with the death of Castro and his friend, Janet Bandu.

In an era like this, the power of social media cannot be downplayed. The micro blogging sites allow people to freely express their opinions on issues of interest.

One ‘loud’ musician we currently have – Shatta Wale (2014 VGMA Artiste of the Year) – did not hold back his thoughts and opinion in relation to the tragic accident Castro and his friend encountered whilst jet skiing at Ada.

According to Shatta Wale, he will put the blame on the Ghana Music Industry. As he put it out in a facebook post, Shatta wrote the below statement (unedited)

“I DONT BLAME ANYBODY BUT WILL BLAME THIS INDUSTRY THAT MAKES ARTISTE FEEL LIKE POPPERS..THIS INDUSTRY KILLED TERRY BONCHAKA BECUASE HE WASNT PAID GOOD ENOUGH TO EVEN AFFORD A BETTER CAR,NOW CASTRO IS ALSO DEAD ALL BECAUSE HE TRUSTED HIS BROTHER(ASAMOAH GYAN) WHO WOULD HAVE MADE HIM A BETTER STAR IN THE NEAR FUTURE, BECAUSE OUR INDUSTRY WASNT MAKING HIM,HE WAS PUSHING HIMSELF TO THE TOP…MAY OUR GREAT GOD SET PEACE IN YOUR SOUL..WILL ALWAYS LOVE U..#CASTRO”

Castro De Destoryer

Wonders shall never end in this great country we call Ghana. Following news that Hiplife musician Castro is feared dead, a self proclaimed spiritualist Dzifah Awagah has claimed that the musician is not dead, but that he has been carried away by his Maame Water wife for her own reasons.

According to this woman, Ghanaians should stop grieving, as Castro is not dead yet and that the more we grieve, the more likely that he would not return from his sojourn to the marine lands.

Dzifah was speaking to Peace Fm in Accra when she made her grandiose claims.

Giving more details, Dzifah claimed that issues like this are normal, and that there is nothing extraordinary regarding this case. She said people from the marine world immerse themselves in our world all the time, and that she herself is one of those people, who entered this world by entering a pregnant woman’s womb to be born through the normal route.

The spiritualist made more claims; according to her if you seek her out, she could call either Castro or Janet Bandu, for whoever was interested to have a chat with them, from their underwater base…

Castro De Destoyer-His Journey, His Career and His Life

Castro De Destroyer1
Castro De Destroyer

The birth name of Hiplife musician – Castro – is Theophilus Tagoe. He was born in 1982 to Mrs Lydia Tagoe and Mr Coffie. Castro spent his early years and some part of his adulthood in Tarkoradi where he hails from.

Castro started his musical career at a very tender age due to his love for music. He later moved from Tarkoradi to Accra to concentrate on his music career since Accra is thought to be where a musician can easily make a break-through.

Professionally, Castro joined mainstream music in 2003 when he released his debut album ‘Sradenam’. Sradenam became an instant hit in Ghana. Its popularity and the lyrics that made up the song drove musicians like Tripple M to record cover versions of it.

In an era where music business was not lucrative and difficult for musicians to remain consistent, Castro was able to maintain that uniformity and came out with his second studio album – ‘Toffee’. Much need not to be talked about ‘Sradenam’ and ‘Toffe’. The impact and the noise these two albums generated was felt everywhere in the country. Among the many musicians at that time, Castro stood out from the crowd because of his silky voice and his singing prowess.

We cannot list the number of featured tracks Castro has to his credit simply because they are uncountable. He worked with musicians such as 4×4, Tinny, Sarkodie, Abrewa Nana, Mzbel, Pope Skinny, Buk Bak, Dasebre Dwamena, just to mention a few.

The history of Hiplife cannot be written without making reference to somebody like Castro. He contributed much to this genre that is putting food on the tables of several young guys and girls today.

Castro later moved from being a solo artiste and formed a group with Shiloh and Screw Face. With these three great musicians coming together to form a trio, they named their group Cashface – Castro (Ca), Shiloh (sh), Screw Face (face). Many hit tracks like ‘Omega’ was churned out from this group until the group was later dissolved where Castro went on with his solo projects just as he had started at the beginning of his career.
