On Friday, actress-Christabel Ekeh appeared at the premiere of her latest movie-‘Royal Diadem’ in Accra, looking simply but elegant—alongside, actors-James Gardiner, David Dontoh and others.

In ‘Royal Diadem’ which is still showing at the SilverBird Cinemas (Accra Mall & West Hills Mall),  “King Dapaah refused to sell a part of their land to foreigners to mine on it, against his brother’s request—which led to a bloody Cold War.

Oppong, his brother wiped out the entire palace in silence. King Dapaah then handed over the Awienie (Royal Diadem) to his most trusted guard (Frimpong) before his death.

Now, Oppong can only become King until the Awinie is on his hands”—and this is where it gets interesting.

The Chief Operations Officer of Ghana Movie Awards has explained to GhanaCelebrities.Com that the President of the award since its inception in 2010, Mr. David Dontoh, could not and has not resigned as reported lately.

RAZ entertainment newspaper reported on Wednesday 12th Feb, 2014 that Mr. David Dontoh has resigned from Ghana Movie Awards with the caption: ‘David Dontoh resigns.’ In the said report, David Dontoh expressed his anger at the organizers of GMA.

He revealed that he was not informed about the launch of the 2013 GMA, that is how come he was not present or seen at the launch of the award. According to Mr. Dontoh, he actually read about the launch from the newspapers.

Quoting from the newspaper: “If I’m the President of Ghana Movie Award and I had no idea about the award’s launch, no idea about the movie screening, and any media house questions me on any platform, what answers do you expect me to give?

“It doesn’t speak well of me, doesn’t speak well of the awards and makes the whole thing a big insult” Mr. Dontoh continued that he feels Fred Nuamah, Founder of GMA, and his team stabbed him in the back. Mr. Dontoh said he has decided to stay away from the awards scheme, and that he’s no longer going to be the President of the awards until better explanations are given.”

Gollywood Productions, organizers of the prestigious Ghana Movie Awards christened MAG Awards has opened entry for Ghanaian filmmakers to submit their works for consideration.

The second edition of the awards ceremony which is aimed at honouring excellence in Ghana’s movie industry is scheduled for December 25 2011. It will also be televised to millions of viewers across Africa and beyond.

As a patriotic Ghanaian, I detest people who make comments that seem to suggest that they do not like Ghanaian movies. Comments such as ‘I don’t watch Ghanaian movies’ and ‘I only watch foreign movies’ and the rest of such worthless comments irritate me.

Nonetheless I think that people who make such comments can’t be blamed for their stand. This is because sometimes it’s very painful to watch some of these Ghanaian movies with horrific pictures, inappropriate languages, bad sound and lots of continuity inaccuracies.

So it’s somehow prudent to concur with the people who have constantly drummed into our ears their strong aversion for movies produced in Ghana. Just imagine sitting through the entire duration of a Ghanaian movie and only to realize that, the story line is similar to several Ghanaian movies you have already watched.

Don’t get it twisted, it’s not a similar story; it’s actually the same story twisted with different casts.

Least I forget, their story lines are about love: If it’s not about someone dreaming about a lady and goes to gallivant searching for the said lady [imagine this], then it would be a man who claims to love a girl yet goes to the ladies house to insult and beat the parents.
