FIFA president, Joseph Sepp Blatter on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 commended World Award winning enterprenuer, Dentaa and Shaun Campbell, founder of the Arthur Wharton Foundation, at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
Mr Blatter was full of praise for Dentaa and Campbell for their efforts at making the Arthur Wharton Foundation a success.
Earlier, on behalf of the Foundation, Dentaa presented the statute of Arthur Wharton, the first black Professional footballer, to Mr. Blatter, so that it could be erected at the FIFA headquarters in remembrance.
After the presentation Dentaa said “I am thrilled to present this statue. Arthur Wharton was a Trailblazer. His ambition has led to many black players being around today. We are seeing the result of his footsteps, a multicultural game now exists thanks to the likes of Arthur Wharton; and soccer
and the world are better because of it.”
Twitter lit up on Tuesday when news of the presentation broke with Sepp Blatter tweeting about it…
In the coming months and years, visitors to the Home of FIFA in Zurich may notice a bronze statue of a goalkeeper on display and wonder who it is. Those with a keener eye may have seen the same at The FA’s Headquarters at Wembley Stadium and UEFA’s base in Nyon. Those statues are a tribute to the legacy of Arthur Wharton, the world’s first black professional footballer.
