Despite the unbearable hardship Ghanaians are going through because of the current power crisis dubbed-Dumsor, which has pushed Yvonne Nelson and several other celebrities to kick-start a social media campaign #DumsorMustStop—former president of the Ghana Actors Guild-Nii Odoi Mensah has come out to say the whole campaign is WRONG and unnecessary…

Mr. Nii Odoi Mensah in an interview with Starr Fm said; ‘though the celebrities have the right to hold the [upcoming #DumsorMustStop] vigil, it is “unnecessary” in his opinion.’

Mr. Odoi Mensah told Starr Entertainment “that the young members of the guild should have sought advice before starting the campaign. He believes President Mahama is making frantic efforts to bring Ghana back to full illumination”.

He added; “in a society where the young will not seek advice from the elderly, then you know we have a problem.”

“Seriously my sister do you think the present government is happy with the situation in which we are? Or, when his Excellency the president came into power, do you think he went to Akosombo to [shut] the dam off, so that we stay in darkness? Or can’t we understand that there is a problem and somebody must fix it and that we all have to help that person to fix it?” he wondered.

He continued; “Ghanaians must learn to be patient in life. You don’t get things on a silver platter. No condition is permanent. The man said he is trying his best to solve the problem, let’s help him solve it!

Ghana Actors Guild President GAG, Mr. Odoi Mensah, was rushed to the hospital some weeks back for an emergency operation on him.

GhanaCelebrities.Com broke the news of Mr. Odoi’s illness on 4th March, 2014. We gathered from one industry person (preferred to remain anonymous) that Mr. Odoi was diagnosed of appendicitis; a disease he has lived with all these years but his doctors never detected until this time round when the disease ‘struck’ him hard and he had to be rushed to the hospital. Our source also disclosed that Mr. Odoi had gone through a successful surgical operation.

Following up on the story, GhanaCelebrities.Com contacted Mr. Odoi to find out his current state of health. Fortunately, he picked and told us “I’ve been discharged but I’m currently in the house. My doctor has advised I stay at home for sometime before resuming work. I can’t tell exactly when I shall be resuming work. I thank you for your concern my son.”

Whilst Mr. Odoi was hospitalized, GhanaCelebrities.Com visited the guild’s office to speak to its Vice President, Rev. Eddie Coffie, on a story we needed clarity but the office was locked. A source around told us he learnt the Vice of the guild, Mr. Coffie, had resigned from the guild.

Ghana Actors Guild President Sends Strong Warning to Delay Over Charging Money For Audition

Deloris Frimpong Manso-Delay
Deloris Frimpong Manso-Delay

In an explosive exchange, the President of the Ghana actors’ guild has sent a strong warning to Deloris Frimpong Manso concerning her recent commercials on holding auditions to find the next ‘Afia Schwarzeneggar’ Delay has been running commercials on the coming auditions for about two weeks now.

Personally my main issue with the auditions for the series started when I noticed there was a price tag on the audition. Actresses who wish to audition for the role have to pay 30 Ghana Cedis which I find completely wrong.

It is unacceptable to charge or be charged for an audition. I tell people this constantly, if they are charging you for an audition, do not pay. It is within your rights as an artiste not to pay for auditions.

Anyway, that’s where my problem ends but The Actors’ Guild President Samuel Nii Odoi Mensah, seems to have a bigger score to settle with Delay. And I think he could have put his point across without sounding so Chauvinistic and disrespectful of women.

In his words on peacefm;

Delay has no right to hold auditions to search for an actress to play the role because she is neither a member of the Ghana Actors Guild nor the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG).

“This time, she will not get it easy. If she thinks she knows big men and so she can find her way through, we would also tell her that we are the Ghana Actors Guild. We have been quiet for some time now because we want sleeping dogs to lie but this time if you want to touch us, we would touch you because it is becoming too much…You see, when people come to small limelight, then they want to use it against others. It is not right. It is not right at all.”

He said her charging for the auditions is also fraudulent and she is exploiting the public.

I agree on the fact that it is fraudulent and criminal but Mr. Samuel Nii Odoi Mensah, the part on knowing ‘big men’ was uncalled for. Can a woman not rise by fair means in this country anymore? Does it always have to be through men?

Anyway, you know Delay will respond to this don’t you? And she did!
