OccupyGhana has condemned the actions of the principal of the Gushegu Midwifery Midwifery Training School, where a pregnant student was stopped from writing exams due to her condition.

The incident generated outrage, especially when it emerged it was not a national policy employed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) but one employed unilaterally by the principal of the school.

This is the sort of tomfoolery that goes on in this country, under the guise of ‘purity’ and ‘morality’, whilst hurting the people these authorities are supposed to help.

What about being pregnant means one cannot fulfil their academic duties? Remember, we aren’t even talking about a Junior High or Senior High school (where it would still be wrong), but a tertiary level institution.
