Another Shirley Frimpong Manso Movie: ‘Love or Something Like That’ + The Trailer…

Love or Something Like This
Love or Something Like That

Without Shirley Frimpong Manso and her Sparrow Productions’ team, I wonder what most of us quality African movies lovers would have to look forward to, considering the huge existing gap between her productions and that of the others.

If we are to go by convention, the rate at which Shirley Frimpong Manso keeps releasing movies should have a ‘negative’ bearing on the quality of her productions but over the years, we’ve seen she keeps getting better with each production.

We thought POTOMANTO was the best (no wonder it has already received 9 nominations at this year’s African Movie Academy Awards) but Devil in the Detail’ took us to a whole different level and now ‘Love or Something Like That’ is here to take us even higher.

Shirley Frimpong Manso’s latest-Love or Something Like That features multiple award-winning Ghanaian actor-John Dumelo, Joselyn Dumas, Christabel Ekeh, Nigeria’s O.C Ukeje, Nana Mensah and as usual, there will be a host of talented actors…

Love or Something Like Thattells a poignant story about moving on when there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. In the movie, a young surgeon’s chance meeting with her ex-boyfriend throws her world into absolute chaos when she makes a horrible discovery about her past and what could be the end of a great career, and beautiful marriage.

The movie which is produced by Ken Attoh and directed by Shirley Frimpong Manso will be premiered on 17th April, 2014 at the National Theatre (6:30pm & 8:30pm). You can purchase a ticket at Koala, Airport Shell or the National Theatre…

My Thoughts On Shirley Frimpong Manso’s New Movie-POTOMANTO | ‘Women Used To Be Faithful, At Least To The Money’

Potomanto3
Yvonne Okoro in Potomanto

During the Christmas holidays, I had the opportunity to watch the new Shirley Frimpong Manso’s feature film-POTOMANTO in its full HD glory via Sparrow Station—and the experience was beyond my expectation.

Before I proceed with my thoughts on POTOMANTO, let me steal a bit of the space to tell you about my Sparrow Station experience.

I think I am in the best position to rate the Sparrow Station Video on Demand service. After all, I am a regular user of some of the best global VOD services such as Netflix, Lovefilm, NowTV and BlinkBox—I have once held accounts with all these platforms.

After having watched several movies on the above VOD platforms, I have become used to streaming interruptions, especially when the speed of the internet is not great. Even with my recently acquired fibre optic broadband connection, I’ve not been able to completely escape the headache of streaming interruptions.

Therefore, I was prepared to see the streaming of POTOMANTO on Sparrow Station being interrupted, at least two or three times. But shockingly, I watched the entire movie on Sparrow Station without any streaming interruption—and the quality of the movie was GREAT.

The first time I watched POTOMANTO, I did so on my laptop. And when I decided to re-watch it for the purpose of this write up, I hooked my laptop up to my TV—without losing any bit of the HD quality on the large TV.  In fact, it felt like I was watching one of the usual SKY HD channels.

Now back to the movie…POTOMANTO

Storyline

The movie touches on a global developing illegality, where certain underprivileged people in third world countries are lured with fictitious quick money opportunities—fetching them more than they bargain for.Mostly, with genuine intention and keen determination to change their lives for better, these poor young individuals find themselves being over-exploited by the rich.
