A night of celebrating consistent achievers, motivational speeches and a fantastic gathering of British Ghanaians perfectly sums up the GUBA 2015 awards ceremony.

The Hilton Metropole Hotel, Edgware Road, London, was host to this year’s Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards which saw dignitaries such as the Former First Lady of Ghana – Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, Ghana High Commissioner to the UK- HE Victor Smith, Mayor of Royal Borough of Greenwich – Norman Adams, Councillor John Fahy, Lord Hastings, Kwesi Kwarteng MP, Diane Abbott, and Baroness Doreen Lawrence.

The Kingston University Choir of the University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY), founded by former GUBA winner- Lorraine Wright, set the tone of the night with a melodic rendition of the Ghana National Anthem. They were shortly followed by Comedian Simply Andy who gave a comedic delivery to the audience. Journalist Afua Hirsch and Media Personality Kwame Sefa Kayi were the hosts on the night.

The former First Lady of Ghana – Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings graced the stage to present the Pioneering Director Award to Amma Asante.  An advocate for female empowerment, Mrs Rawlings stated:   “As African women, we have held our continent together. We have transformed our continent” whilst expressing delight and admiration of the work of Amma Asante. Amma Asante dedicated her award to her father, whilst reflecting on the difficulty of success within the media industry – “I hope that my story is an inspiration for all” she concluded.

On receiving the Business Entrepreneur Award, Nana Kwame Bediako asserted the need for improvement in Ghana “We will work hard to change our country, to change Africa and to effect change – he concluded. Dr Kwabena Duffuor shared similar sentiments in his acceptance speech urging the audience that “we need to work to develop a country that our children will be proud to call their own.”

Several awards were presented by sponsors and supporters such as:  Gillian Blavo  of Blavo and Co, Felix Nyarko-Pong CEO of uniBank Ghana, Eddie Kadi on behalf of Ultimalt and  Genevieve Boateng Head of Marketing ABN TV to name a few.
