Kumawood actor, Clement Bonney popularly known as Mr Beautiful has gone MIA for close to a year— some of us have long forgotten him. The only time he comes to mind is when we think about celebrities that allowed politics to destroy the little shine they had in the industry.
Politics as a theory have not been fully understood by Africans especially Ghanaians in the sense that people are just hated, marginalised and discriminated due to their political affiliations even though freedom of association is enshrined in the constitution. In the wake and heat of the 2016 election campaigns in Ghana, some celebrities publicly declared their support for some political parties. One of such celebrities is popular Kumawood actor Clement Bonney well known as Mr Beautiful. He openly declared and campaigned for John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress, NDC.
If everything we are reading this morning is something to go by, then the Tabitha Kum hit maker, Nicholas Omane Acheampong is obviously not in the good books of Kumawood actor, Clement Bonney otherwise known as Mr. Beautiful. According to Mr. Beautiful, Nicholas has made certain unremarkable statements about Prophet Kobi who is the founder and leader of the Glorious Wave Ministry who gifted cars to various gospel artistes and media personalities.
Actor Mr. Beautiful claims his wife has been attacked by supporters of the New Patriotic Party following the party’s landslide victory in the 2016 polls. The President, John Dramani Mahama, has reportedly sent a cheque of Ghc 5,000 through his ‘Celebrities for Mahama’ project. Wayoosi, the Kumawood actor born Joseph Nana Osei Kofi, recently took ill, with his condition becoming so critical there were even reports circulating of his death.
Actor Clement Bonney, who we all know as Mr Beautiful, says the President, John Dramani Mahama, has already won re-election. Ghanaians go to the polls in November to elect a leader, but as far as Mr Beautiful is concerned, we might as well sleep in on that day as the election is already decided.
It is sad some people in showbiz or the creative industry in Ghana, enter into politics and compromise their conscience and principles – thereby disappointing their fans and the nation at large.
Most times, people in Ghana’s showbiz industry don’t care much about political, social, religious, commerce and other non-entertainment issues that become public discourse or of public concern. Nonetheless, the very issues regarding the above mentioned disciplines have either positive or negative impact on every living creature in the country.
For instance, Ghana’s legislators (Parliament) were unanimously about to pass the Bio Safety Act to make room for Genetically Modified Foods popularly known as GM Foods in Ghana and some people in the creative arts industry, advocated against this…
In other jurisdictions, celebrities advocate for social and humanitarian issues – damn the consequence. They don’t limit their involvement in their societies to only showbiz matters. Revered TV presenter, entrepreneur and actress, Oprah Winfrey, endorsed and supported Obama to become President of America.
However, she denounced and renounced herself from Obama – after the latter welcomed the US Supreme Court’s decision to strike down a law that denied the recognition of same-sex marriages. I respected Oprah for that gesture!
In the year 2012 general elections, it was reported that well over 30 Ghanaian celebrities formed a group known as Celebrities For Mahama CFM, campaigned for the current government to maintain power. Some names that became very popular were: John Dumelo, Abeiku Santana, Kalsium Sinare, Mr. Beautiful, etc.
Ghana is now going through tough times and none of these celebrities have gathered courage to censor the government – with that same star-power they campaigned for the government to come into office. What even annoys me is that though it is abundantly clear they campaigned for the ruling government; they still claim they are not part of the ruling government’s party.
Actor/Comedian-Mr. Beautiful, real name-Clement Bonney has come out to say, he has not regretted campaigning for President Mahama—and that he will not apologize for playing a key role for the NDC during the 2012 elections.
We don’t think Mr.Beautiful has to apologies for his political affiliation or decisions but to say he has not regretted campaigning for President Mahama, considering the current state of the economy sounds like he doesn’t really care…
With every Ghanaian crying out loud, those who were instrumental in the election of President Mahama and his government must begin to show concern and take the bull by the horn—-even accept they made a mistake if the need be.
According to Razz;
Ghanaian actor, Clement Bonney aka Mr. Beautiful, is still seething with anger over the obvious snub from local movie directors, who have refused to use him in any of their movies due to his political affiliation.
In December 2013, Mr. Beautiful accused Kumasi-based movie producers for sideliningg him for openly displaying his political colours and rallying behind the then National Democratic Congress’ Presidential candidate (NDC), John Mahama during the 2012 Presidential elections.
Gollywood Productions, organizers of the prestigious Ghana Movie Awards christened MAG Awards has opened entry for Ghanaian filmmakers to submit their works for consideration.
