This week, Ghanaian actor-John Dumelo stopped over in Turkey to party with the boys—and he shared a photo looking like a man on a ‘high’ horse…

Comedian-A plus also took a clean photo with Director-Shirley Frimpong Manso and his funny character came to play by clutching on Shirley’s bag, making the photo a must see.

Becca joined the many Ghanaian celebrities who pose for photos in  aeroplanes and she was not even flying in any of the expensive cabins. Soon, airlines should start charging African celebrities for such photos—-we think!

Actress-Nana Ama McBrown, Confidence Haugen, Majid Michel, Sandra Ankobiah and Efya all shared some nice photos…

What A CROWD | PHOTOS From the Premiere of ‘DEVIL IN THE DETAIL’ Feat. Adjetey Anang, Ama Ampofo, Mawuli Gavor & Others

Devil in the Detail Premiere (12)
Devil in the Detail Premiere

Last night-14th of February, 2014, the much anticipated movie – “Devil In The Detail”, written and directed by Shirley Frimpng-Manso and produced by Ken Attoh – was given its first public showing at the Silverbird cinemas (Accra Mall and Weija at exactly 7:30 and 9:30pm).

Those outside Accra and the country weren’t left out as they also had the opportunity to watch the movie at www.sparrowstation.com. And for this who missed it, the movie can be watched on SparrowStation.Com.

The attendance was great; with lots of people trooping in and out just to be part of the “Devil in the Detail” premiere experience. This need not be dragged further as the pictures below tell it all. Three cinema halls were fully occupied, with some people parading themselves outside the hall for the next showing.

With most premieres attended, the turnouts had been very poor with no or less people even bothering themselves to watch the second showing. People attended both the first and second showings (all three halls were full on these two occasions) for the Devil in the Detail.

Let’s Settle the Debate Once & For All: And The Best Ghanaian Movie Director Is?

Shirley Frimpong Manso in London (8)
Shirley Frimpong Manso

Based on which Director’s movie is trending, the person mostly wins the known movie awards and if you are a sceptic like me, you will definitely not even believe the genuineness of many of these awards that get handed out…

Last year’s Ghana Movie Awards also failed to give us any strong indication as to who is leading the game—awarding two of the Directors below with their Best Director award.

Let’s forget the technical language if we do not understand them and invoke our individual honesty by voting for who we think is the Best Ghanaian Movie Director—-based on the many Ghanaian movies we’ve seen.

*By Ghanaian Movie Director, the person must have been working in the Ghanaian Movie industry, no necessary a Ghanaian by citizenship*

Vote Below Now and let’s settle the debate once and for all…

Nigerian Director Frank Raja Says Shirley Frimpong Manso Is an Outstanding Director + Majid Michel is His Favorite

On Friday 31st Jan, 2013, host of the Taxi Driver programme on Hitz 103.9 fm, Blakk Rasta interviewed Nigerian film director Frank Raja on what the latter think of the current state of Ghana’s movie industry.

Full name Frank Arase Raja, came to Ghana in the early 2000s through Ghanaian revered filmmaker, Abdul Salam of Venus Films. Asked how he got into the industry and how he came to Ghana to start directing movies, Frank said “well I started producing and directing movies in Nigeria. Abdul Salam who is a marketer, used to market few of my movies here in Ghana.

“First it was Samira Yakubu the costumier who invited me to Ghana for the shooting of the movie ‘Official Prostitute’ with the late Suzzy Williams. Abdul met with me again and he was like I love what you have been doing, I’ve sold a couple of your movies and so I think you and I could do something.

“It died out after I went back to Nigeria but he called me back later, bought me ticket, we discussed on what to do with the Ghanaian film industry. We discussed money, signed contract and we took off and from there, we’ve worked till date.

Bluntly, Blakk asked, in Ghana right now, apart from you being a director, is there any director you strongly admire in the Ghanaian film industry? “Shirley Frimpong-Manson” Frank revealed. Controversial Blakk pushed further, more than Leila Djansi?

Leila Djansi was in the news yesterday for saying ‘ she has no problem with Shirley Frimpong Manso‘ and they are not enemies in any quarters, contrary to what people think…

Probably, to make a statement of her own and show support, Shirley Frimpong Manso attended the premiere of Leila Djansi’s movie-‘A Northern Affair’ yesterday at the National Theatre—and she sat through to watch the entire movie.

‘Shirley Frimpong Manso Is Not My Enemy’ Says Leila Djansi + What I Think…

Leila Djansi and Shirley Frimpong Manso
Leila Djansi and Shirley Frimpong Manso

For some reason, it seems when it comes to us women, there is only one top place for a woman. But several men can be on top without any unnecessary tension—in fact, they can even support each other while on top.

Out of nothing, tension and animosity was created and it filled the top gap between Leila Djansi and Shirley Frimpong Manso—I will blame the Ghanaian media as the force behind this big bang.

For some years now, things have been reported as if Leila Djansi and Shirley Frimpong Manso were natural enemies. It has been made out to be like there is no way they can exist in the same industry as outstanding Directors, unless one slashes the throat of another.

Even where there is nothing, the media conjures tension and creates aversion between the two fans of these Directors. Why can’t you like the works of Leila Djansi and equally admire that of Shirley Frimpong Manso? I am yet to see any African Movie fanatic who loves the excellent works of the two great women.

My Thoughts On Shirley Frimpong Manso’s New Movie-POTOMANTO | ‘Women Used To Be Faithful, At Least To The Money’

Potomanto3
Yvonne Okoro in Potomanto

During the Christmas holidays, I had the opportunity to watch the new Shirley Frimpong Manso’s feature film-POTOMANTO in its full HD glory via Sparrow Station—and the experience was beyond my expectation.

Before I proceed with my thoughts on POTOMANTO, let me steal a bit of the space to tell you about my Sparrow Station experience.

I think I am in the best position to rate the Sparrow Station Video on Demand service. After all, I am a regular user of some of the best global VOD services such as Netflix, Lovefilm, NowTV and BlinkBox—I have once held accounts with all these platforms.

After having watched several movies on the above VOD platforms, I have become used to streaming interruptions, especially when the speed of the internet is not great. Even with my recently acquired fibre optic broadband connection, I’ve not been able to completely escape the headache of streaming interruptions.

Therefore, I was prepared to see the streaming of POTOMANTO on Sparrow Station being interrupted, at least two or three times. But shockingly, I watched the entire movie on Sparrow Station without any streaming interruption—and the quality of the movie was GREAT.

The first time I watched POTOMANTO, I did so on my laptop. And when I decided to re-watch it for the purpose of this write up, I hooked my laptop up to my TV—without losing any bit of the HD quality on the large TV.  In fact, it felt like I was watching one of the usual SKY HD channels.

Now back to the movie…POTOMANTO

Storyline

The movie touches on a global developing illegality, where certain underprivileged people in third world countries are lured with fictitious quick money opportunities—fetching them more than they bargain for.Mostly, with genuine intention and keen determination to change their lives for better, these poor young individuals find themselves being over-exploited by the rich.
