Vodafone Ghana Music Awards VGMA Board Chairman, Nii Aryitey Hammond, has told GhanaCelebrities.Com that he is highly disappointment in Academy member, Franky Taylor, for revealing his (Franky) vote on live radio.

This year, some VGMA Board and Academy members have really proven that come next year, Charterhouse should consider either not hiring them again or hire and truss them with stringent clauses that will forbid them from revealing what goes on behind the scene to the public – media.

GhanaCelebrities.Com published on Monday, 5th May, 2014 a story headlinedVGMA Academy member reveals his Vote on live radio and defends it: “The award is over.” In the said publication, VGMA Academy member and also a highly reveredKumasi based radio presenter by name, Franky Taylor, made a shocking revelation on Rainbow Radio’s GH Entertainment’ on Saturday 3rd May, 2014.

“Now that the award is over I can reveal who I voted for. With the experience that I have acquired, OJ is far ahead than Bisa (Kdei). So professionally I voted for OJ” Franky Taylor said without any shred of caution – he voted for OJ for the Songwriter of the Year but Bisa Kdei won to his displeasure.

Already, rumours are widespread on the streets and in media circle that OJ won the Songwriter of the Year category but Charterhouse allegedly swapped and gave it to Bisa K.Dei; so when an esteemed Academy member of his stature came out with that revelation, it fed and continue to feed into the rumour or allegation.

Fred Kyei Mensah, a respected sound engineer, arts analyst and also a member on the VGMA board, has admitted that the board erred in the cause of their works – the nomination list.

On Thursday 3rd April, 2014, the Executive Director of Charterhouse – organizers of VGMA, Mrs. Theresa Ayoade, confirmed GhanaCelebrities.Com’s earlier report that VGMA shall not review this year’s controversial nomination list – irrespective of all the call on them to do so; on Peace 104.3 fm’s ‘Entertainment Review.’

Mrs. Ayoade made the point that though the board detected that there were some issues with some of the categories due to the changing times with technology, it was too late to make any bold changes to the nomination list before releasing it.

“We detected after the board’s work that there were some issues, developing trends has set into the industry but at that time, it was too late for us to do any bold changes because we had a few days to announce the nominations.

We had to exercise our discretion (as in, release the nomination list) with the view that after the scheme, we would have a general review and then explain the challenges we had with some members of the industry as we normally do, then, we would evaluate it (the new trends) properly to see if it’s a one way situation or a growing trend in the industry.

At the end of the award, we shall do a total review and take into consideration the trends that have come. The last time we reviewed the nomination list was 2 years ago.” She said.

According to Mrs. Ayoade, some of the things that they shall change/review in the award scheme include: Album of the Year, Release of Song – its definition, and New Artiste of the Year.

Fredyma, who is known for his honest opinions, admitted that the board erred and pleaded for sympathy, “we admit certain things did not go well and that is the criteria definitions. Forgive us! We shall make all the necessary changes. We thank the media for all they have said.”

So per cognitive logic, it means the VGMA board, knew the nomination list is fraught with errors even before the release of the nomination list, yet, when it was released and critics raised issues, some members of the board defended every issue that was raised; to the extent that some even had verbal confrontation with critics on live radio and television.

Critics of 2014 VGMA Wasted Their Breath For Nothing – Board Will Not Review The Nomination List

In case you were one of the critics of this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards VGMA – thus, calling on the board to review the nomination list, be informed now that it won’t happen; because, the board has given answers to all queries raised.

The only category in this year’s VGMA nomination list which has come under serious censorship is the New Artiste of the Year category. Art polymaths are of the opinion that, all the artistes nominated for that category do not qualify for nomination.

Addressing the New Artiste category brouhaha which has Joey B, Kumi Guitar and Akwaboah as nominees, Mrs. Ayoade made it clear that Kumi Guitar did a song for producer Sugar Tone in 2012 but released his own song in 2013 and that qualified him as a new artiste.

She also explained that Akwaboah wrote songs for an artiste which won him the Best Songwriter in 2012. However he is now out with his own music which makes him a new artiste, just as Joey B who officially released his Strawberry Ginger in 2013.

GhanaCelebrities.Com got in touch with Nii Ayitey Hammond who is the Chairman of the VGMA Board and asked him if the board will still review the nomination list – in the face of the above explanations from Mrs. Ayoade.

“As I speak with you, the board has not decided to review the nomination list; so that is what we stand by” Mr. Hammond said. GhanaCelebrities.Com asked Mr. Hammond how the board regarded all the facts, evidence or proves that some critics of the award presented to the board.

“So far none of the evidence brought before the board is strong enough to make us disqualify any artiste or song in the nomination list. All that they have said or presented represents opinions; their opinions for that matter. The board does not deal with opinions but facts. Real facts! Any person who presents real facts shall be considered by the board.” Mr. Hammond said.
