53 People Arrested For ‘Unlawful Assembly’ After Attending Gay Marriage In Nigeria

53 people have been arrested in the Nigerian state of Kaduna after they were rounded up by police for attending a gay marriage ceremony.

Police rounded up the attendees at the ceremony held at Zaria Motel in the town of Chediya-Zaria.


According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the suspects are being charged with conspiracy, unlawful assembly and belonging to a gang of an unlawful society.

“On April 15, 2017, at about 2100 hours a team of policemen led by DSP Muhammad Lawal-Mashi arrested and brought to police station 53 persons.” prosecutor, Sgt. Mannir Nasir told the agency.

“The arrested persons included Jibril Abdullahi, Sagir Abubakar, Anas Mohammed, Mustapha Abubakar, Musa Ibrahim and Suleiman Usman among others, all of various addresses.

“Information reached the police that these group of persons conspired to celebrate a gay marriage at Zaria Motel between one Faruk and San*si, both at large,” he added.
