One miner is dead after a ‘galamsey’ pit collapsed on five miners in the Ashanti Region.
The miners were prospecting for gold in the pit which then collapsed on them.
The incident occurred in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region.
According to reports, five miners were in the pit when it collapsed, but one remain trapped and was unable to escape, leading to his death.
This incident is the latest in a series of collapses in mining towns across the country – with the most tragic one occurring in the Western Region when over a dozen died in a pit collapse.
