HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN GHANA: Now Being Conducted In A More Sophisticated Way Through Radio Stations And Churches…Are Our Leaders To Be Blamed?

human-trafficking in Ghana

Unemployed graduates and some youth who are desperate to work to earn a living have fallen victims to the scheme of some scrupulous and greedy people in Ghana who enrich themselves by preying on the poor.

These greedy people have sophisticated methods of recruiting people and trafficking them to work as prostitutes and slaves in other countries.  These recruiters openly recruit their victims with no fear of being arrested because of the nature of the approach.

The last time I checked, it was illegal to practice human trafficking, and the world frowns on it.  People who are caught in this type of act could face some jail term.  But the threat of jail time doesn’t t curtail these traffickers to slow down by any means.

If anything at all, they have become rather aggressive in finding different ways to recruit and traffic their victims. In Ghana for instance, the new way of trafficking young people outside the country is to tell them that they are being sent out to work as store clerks, domestic servants or butchers in the Arab countries.

Apparently, the announcements for recruitments are made through radio stations and churches with permission from the church leaders. As such, most of these venerable young people tend to believe everything that is being said.

They are made to pay huge sums of money in order to make these trips. Some pay as much as 4,000 ghc, which is equivalent of about $2, 170. Some of these youth end up in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

FOR THE LADIES: Engagement Rings – How Important Is The Size Of Your Stone To You? And Would You Care For Diamonds Or Cubic Zirconia?

Diamond ring

Let’s face it; it is no secret that women love diamonds and that a woman’s best friend is diamond!  And if it were left with women to buy their own rings, they would have bought the brightest and biggest stones as their engagement rings.

Granted, that diamonds are not the only precious stones to have on an engagement ring, however they are the most popular stones used in designing engagement rings.  Indeed, I have heard many people say that the size of the ring does not make the marriage better. And that a bigger stone does not necessary mean a happy marriage.  But let’s be realistic here for a moment, every woman would be happy to have a bigger diamond ring-happy or not…

I personally care about the size of my ring. It doesn’t have to be a 1, 2, 3 or 4 carat diamond, but it has to be a visible size diamond, so I don’t have to squint to see it.  For all that we endure as women, I believe it is only fair that we get decent engagement rings.

LORD HAVE MERCY: 2 Sisters Arrested With A Baby In Polythene Bag

Katherine and Emelia Ankrah
Katherine and Emelia Ankrah

Two sisters who allegedly wrapped a new-born baby in a black polythene bag and put it in a ladies’ handbag are in the hands of the Ashaiman branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).

The sisters, Katherine Ankrah, a 29-year-old trader and Emilia Ankrah, a 28-year-old food vendor, who is the mother of the day-old baby, had allegedly conspired to abandon the baby somewhere or kill it when they were arrested.

The suspects are residents of New York in the Kpone-Katamanso District and Abeka Lapaz in Accra respectively.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jennifer Bola, Ashaiman DOVVSU Coordinator, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said Emilia, who was travelling from Ashaiman to New York in Kpone near Tema on a commercial vehicle, put the baby in a black polythene bag which was in her handbag.

On the vehicle, passengers became alarmed by the constant cry of a baby but they could not locate it.

According to her, the cry of the baby persisted until they got to a bus stop at New York where Emilia alighted, and the other passengers spotted some movements in her handbag. This aroused suspicion in the passengers.

The DOVVSU Coordinator explained that the passengers arrested the woman and demanded to know what was in the bag, adding that Katherine, who was waiting for Emilia at the bus stop, rushed to the scene a few minutes later and quickly collected the handbag from Emilia.

THE BIG QUESTION: Love In The Diaspora – Is It Possible For An Illegal Immigrant To Really Love A Legal Immigrant Or A Citizen Of A Country? My Friends Say NO!

us-passport[1]

I have realized that Ghanaians in the diaspora often question whenever an illegal immigrant falls in love with a legal immigrant or a citizen of a country.  I will focus my article to the immigrants in the USA.

I guess the reason this has become a way of thinking for most of us is because there has been so many instances where a legal and an illegal immigrants have fallen in love, gotten married, had children, only for the illegal person to have acquired a legal status and left the marriage.  Strangely, once the illegal partner is legalized as a citizen of the country, he/she suddenly realizes the marriage is not worth fighting for, and walks away.

It is rather unfortunate because this type of behavior has made many people to believe that whenever an illegal immigrant falls in love with a citizen or a legal migrant, then the love could probably not be real.

I don’t believe that can be the case in all situations at all. I believe there are so many illegal immigrants out there who will love and love forever a citizen or a legal migrant.  I know there are legal and illegal immigrants from other countries who also experience this.

The only difference is that, these people are not so fast to judge or question a relationship between the two people as not being real. They give it a chance to see what comes of it, and most of the time great things do come out such relationships.  So why is ours any different?

The fact that it’s happened to about five percent of the Ghanaian community doesn’t mean it has happened to everyone.  This backward way of thinking could let someone walk away on a genuine love of his/her life if he/she buys into such arguments.

Lord Have Mercy (LHM): A Niqab-Wearing Attacker Threw Acid In Her Face Of A Young Black Victoria Secret Worker As She Walked Home From Late Night Shift

Naomi Oni

What sort of wicked world have we found ourselves in? I do not want to believe this horrific attach on an innocent young black girl is religiously motivated since the attacker was wearing a NIQAB. GOSH!

How on earth can a human being damage the face and live of another like this?

Lord Have Mercy!

Read below to find out what happened to this innocent black girl

Via DailyMail

A Victoria’s Secret shop assistant was scarred for life when a mysterious figure wearing a niqab threw acid in her face as she walked home from work.

Naomi Oni, 20, was left with severe burns on her head, neck, arms, legs and body after she was attacked in Dagenham, east London.

She has spent the past month having skin grafts and almost went blind, although she has now recovered her vision in her left eye and has partial sight in her right.

Her attacker was dressed like a Muslim woman in a niqab, so Ms Oni could not see their face. Police have no idea who was responsible for the vicious attack, or why they did it.

Niqab
Hidden: Police have not managed to identify who did attacked Ms Oni because they were wearing a niqab

The shop assistant – who is sole carer for her disabled mother Marian Yalekhue, 52 – was making the five-minute journey back to their flat from the bus stop when she heard someone behind her.

She had just finished a late shift at the Westfield Stratford store and was on the phone to her boyfriend Ato Owede, 23, at 12.40am.

‘I’d been working a late shift and was talking to my boyfriend about what we were going to do for New Year when I saw this Muslim woman wearing a niqab covering her face,’ she told the Evening Standard.

‘I thought it was a bit strange at that time of night, but she didn’t say anything and I kept on walking.

‘Then I felt a splash on my face. It burned and I screamed out. I started running and screaming, holding my face, all the way home. I didn’t look back.

‘I got home and I was screaming and banging on the door. I was hysterical. Luckily my godmother, who is a pharmacist, was at home with my mum and she helped me and kept dipping my face in water and trying to calm me down until the police and ambulance got there.

‘I was in shock. Saying: “Who would do that? Who would do that?” How could anyone do this?’.

She has released the shocking images of her disfigured face in an appeal for help to catch the attacker whose identity was concealed behind the Muslim women’s dress which completely covers the face apart from the eyes.

Ms Oni decided to speak out after police failed to establish any motive behind the December 30 attack or identify a suspect.

She said the attack had ‘destroyed’ her life and left her too afraid to venture out or even show her face in public.

‘I look in the mirror and it just isn’t me. I’ll never look the same again,’ she said. ‘I’ve always been outgoing and confident in my job and in my personal life, used to getting attention for the way I dress or my hair, but now I don’t want anyone looking at me.

‘I don’t want people to see me in public. I don’t want to get the Tube or the bus. If I have to go to the hospital I take a taxi.
