New Fleet Of Bus Rapid Transport Vehicles Which Commenced Operations Today Are Neither Registered Nor Insured

rbt
Sounds so typical of the Ghanaian way of doing things, doesn’t it? Such a huge project that has been hugely anticipated kicks off and the buses are not even cleared to work.
So why were they put on the roads then?
The Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Service, a new fleet of buses introduced by government to ease the public transport woes in the country, started rolling out today (Monday) in the capital, handing out free rides on a sort of pilot basis.
However, the buses themselves have not been insured or even registered to be on the road, with Roland Bruce, the Marketing and Communications Manager of the Gt. Accra Passenger Transport Executive – responding to Citi questions surrounding the buses by admitting they were neither registered nor insured.
He said they hoped to get it done by the end of the week.
“We have started the insurance and registration; but these are the buses we are rolling as a test, but there are also majority of the buses so we are in the process of insuring them and hopefully by the end of the week, as we are done with the test run, all the buses should be insured and also registered.” he told the Accra based radio station.
If every issue surrounding the buses have not been solved, why put them out on the roads? Why mess around with human lives in such a cavalier manner? Is is simply for votes or what?
