The World Bank Ghana has presented cheques to the nominees of the 2012 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards ‘Music For Development’ category.
Over the years, the World Bank Ghana has initiated a scheme via GMAs to promote the development of the creative arts in Ghana. The award is to recognise and award a deserving musician who has started a project that seeks to develop and touch a life.
In a short ceremony at their Knowledge Space Office in Accra, Okyeame Kwame being the eventual winner of the category was presented with a cheque of GHC3.000 to help him with his ‘Hepatitis B’ free screening.
The other two nominees; Ewe rapper, Edem and physically challenged Bohyeba were both presented with GHC1.000 each to also aid them in their chosen campaigns; ‘Ghetto Youth Project’ and ‘Disability Project’ respectively.
Even though, the message of touching a life or composing a music for development has not sunk well with Ghanaian musicians as its evident in the number of nominees this year, GhanaCelebrities.Com believes the move by the World Bank is laudable and worth praising.
There are more positivity in the ‘Music For Development’ category, as it’s the only category in the GMAs where an artiste doesn’t necessarily have to win the nod to get recognition and rewarded. Getting a nomination is enough to be a winner.
The difference between the ‘Music for Development’ category and any other category is that, with the former everyone is a winner.
MTN, the biggest telecom company also presented GHC15.000 to their brand icon to complete the free screening. This means that, Okyeame Kwame despite not winning the biggest award ‘Artiste of the Year’ will be the richest artiste of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
He picked GHC3.000 for winning the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ and ‘Best Collaboration of the Year’ honours with his ‘Faithful’ track featuring Bertha.
