SHARE A THOUGHT: Should KKD Who is An Adjudicator On BET AWARD Board Be Relieved Of His Job Due to His Rape Case?

In case you never knew, Kwasi Kyei Darkwah popularly known as KKD, who was arrested on 27th December, 2014 due to a rape allegation leveled against him by a 19 year old girl, Ewuraffe Orleans Effe, is an ADJUDICATOR on the BET Awards in America.

KKD is the only Ghanaian contracted from Ghana to be on the BET Award’s adjudicator board. As an adjudicator on the board, he gives inputs when it comes to the selection, screening and nomination of African artists into the award scheme.

KKD has been on the BET Award right from the days Kojo Antwi, the first Ghanaian artist to have gotten a BET Award nomination, scored a nomination in 2010 – followed by D-Black in 2011, Sarkodie in 2012 (won it with Whiz Kid), R2Bees in 2013, and Sarkodie again in 2014.

His presence on the board is a pride not only to himself, family and friends, but Ghana as a country. Indeed, he is one of the adjudicators on the board who has been fighting for African acts/ winners who are given their awards/statutes off stage, be given on the stage.

Unfortunately, we woke up on 28th Dec, 2014 only to be banged in the face with the ball over – KKD The Finest, has been arrested a day before in connection with a rape allegation. Ever since, there have been many conspiracy theories from various quarters in connection with the case.

Corporate and individual outfits usually distances themselves from persons who engage in activities that soil their dignity or reputation. Some will not even hire you – once there’s a stigma on your name or will revoke whatever contract they have with you – once you soil your image or engages in any sort of scandalous activity which the media feeds on!

In 2010, Lynx Entertainment came out few days after it was reported that Asem has raped a certain girl (in her teens) that, they no longer work with Asem. Though they said their decision had nothing to do with Asem’s case, the sheer coincidence made critics conclude so.

The big question on KKD’s rape case for today’s discussion is: should the organizers of BET Awards scheme, usher KKD out of their board due to his rape case? Has his case cast ignominy on the BET Award scheme? Can KKD’s rape case make some sponsors who sponsor the BET Award pull out?

Why is BET Award organizers even silent on this case? Is it that they have not heard this KKD story? Or they have sacked him behind the scenes – perhaps unknown to KKD or the public? Share a thought because you have one. Until then…MOTWUM!!

  1. Ei GC fo), mo p3 mo as3m aka a, mo nka rather than deploying an indirect and psychological formation. Anyway as for y3n ak)nk)Safo) de3 this is all we want so as to make our notice valuable. Number 1: Under normal circumstance this deviant act by KKD tarnishes his image and anything associated with him. Be it sponsors, donors or any entity he belongs. They have every right to either sack or relive him from his post. Nike pulled out from a sponsorship deal they had with Oscar Pistorious, although that was different from KKD’s. Tiger woods suffered da same. More prominent figures has suffered same so KKD’s own is no different. They have ethical clauses, anything you do to bring their brand into disrepute, or soil their image is tantamount to the obvious. However being bias a lil because of the course he is championing by fighting for African acts to receive their awards equally on stage, I will wish they maintain home boy but I won’t be surprised if he is booted out. I’m even surprised why BET has been silent on this. Hey BET kick him out… 3didi nkwadaa.. Makaa maka.
