Kwabena Kwabena Calls For The VGMA To Be Nationalised

Singer Kwabena Kwabena says that the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, which are organised by the events company Charter House, should be taken over by government due to its national nature.
In an interview with KOD on Live Fm, Kwabena Kwabena said that the awards scheme has become bigger than Charter House, and thus should be taken over by the state.
According to him, although they have done well over the years to hold the fort, the award scheme is what represents Ghana across the globe, so he wants the state to fund and operate it, and possibly expand its scope to a week’s festival instead of a day’s event.
He said:

Awards have outgrown Charter House, the reason is simple, the whole world is looking at it now as an event that brings the best Ghanaian musicians together and so it is time the state takes it up as a national event and fund. So that no individual will own the right, infact I prefer it being like a five days festival event so that we can showcase our arts and culture.
“They have done well for holding it down for all this years and I commend them for that. It is not an easy thing to put up something and hold it like there like they have done. I have tried it myself and it was not easy at all”

The singer had only one parting shot. If the company wasn’t prepared to relinquish the awards, then the name Ghana should be taken off it.
What do you make of Kwabena Kwabena’s ideas?
