Saturday Night Live, like much of the media, lampooned and satirised candidate Donald Trump, largely in part due to the abundance of material produced by the candidate who seemed to make a misstep every single day.
Despite all the fun they made of him, Trump won the election, and thus all eyes were on SNL to see how their first show after the surprising polls would approach the topic.
It started with Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton playing a sombre tune on the piano. She sang ‘hallelujah’, signifying that she tried her best but evidently it was not enough. Dave Chappelle also made an appearance to give a poignant opening monologue that dissected all the feelings running through the country in the wake of the unexpected victory of the Donald.
