Our Government Is Always Expanding! – Find Out The Number Of Ministers Appointed By Each President Since 1992

By the final count, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed 110 ministers to help him run the country.

That seems to be on the high side, and it is – because that is the largest government ever assembled since the Independence of this country.

In our Fourth Republican dispensation, since the adoption of the 1992 constitution – the size of our government has been increasingly going up.

GhanaCelebrities.Com has gathered the total number of ministers appointed in the first term of each Presidency since 1992, and invariably, they all increase the size of government.

Does this mean in 30 years time this tiny country would have about 200 ministers? Only time will tell, but if history is any indication it doesn’t look good.

Every President since Rawlings has grown the government by at least ten percent, with Atta Mills growing it the least (13%). J.A Kuffour tops, when he nearly doubled the size of Jerry Rawlings government in 2001 (67%). Akuf0-Addo has increased the government by 30% from it’s size under JDM.

Below, check out the number of ministers appointed by the five Presidents of the fourth Republic during their first term and by how much they grew the size of government. (% increase measured from the first term figure of their predecessor.)

Jerry John Rawlings (1993) – 36 ministers

John Agyekum Kuffour (2001) – 60 ministers (67% increase)

John Evans Atta-Mills (2009) – 68 ministers (13% increase)

John Dramani Mahama (2013) – 84 ministers (24% increase)

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (2017) – 110 ministers (30% increase)
