The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Monday visited the site of the tragic killing of army officer Maxwell Mahama in the Central Regional town of Denkyria-Obuasi.
The President was en route to the Western Region to commence his working visit and passed through Boase, to see the site where Mahama was bludgeoned to death.
Writing about the visit on social media, the President strongly condemned the scourge of mob justice and expressed strong hope that the tragic events of Mahama’s death would be the shock Ghanaians need to write off mob justice forever.
He wrote:
On Monday, 7th August, 2017, I made a brief stopover at Denkyira Obuasi, en route to Wassa Akropong, on day 1 of my 3-day tour of the Western Region.
I visited the site of the tragic killing of Major Maxwell Mahama. Never again should such an act like this occur in any part of our country.
The trauma suffered by the whole nation as a result of the incident should cure us of the barbaric practice of mob justice. It is absolutely essential that we leave the prosecution and punishment of suspected criminals to the Police and the Judiciary.
