The National Democratic Congress has released a statement, signed by the party’s National Chairman-Dr. Kofi Portuphy, condemning the jailing of Montie Fm’s three today by Ghana’s Supreme Court.
Earlier today, two panellists, Godwin Ako Gunn and Alistair Nelson, as well as the morning show host Salifu ‘Mugabe’ Maase, received the jail time following a criminal contempt charge raised against them by the Supreme Court.
They are also to pay a fine of Ghc 10,000, or in lieu, spend another month in jail.
The owners of the station, which includes Edward Addo, Harry Zakuor, Ato Ahwoi and Kwesi Kyei Atuah – have also been fined Ghc 30,000 each.
According to the NDC,  the “party is particularly concerned about the devastating impact that this judgment will have on the ability of citizens of Ghana in whom sovereignty resides, to express themselves freely as enshrined in the constitution.”
