Burundi’s Government Soliciting For Funds On Facebook To Run The Upcoming Elections

President Pierre Nkurunziza
President Pierre Nkurunziza

You see the kind of leaders we have on this continent. After staying in power beyond his mandate, leading to violence that has claimed lives; Burundi’s president comes up with this absolutely embarrassing notion, exposing the continent to international ridicule.

The Burundian government has asked its people to donate money into an account to help run the upcoming elections. The appeal was made on the Burundi government’s official Facebook page, and has become necessary after international agencies withdrew funding due to the despotic conditions surrounding the elections.

Pierre Nkurunziza announced plans to run for a third term, despite the constitution limiting every President to two terms in office. Nkurunziza’s actions led to weeks of protest, some of which turned violent, and a failed coup by the military as the calls for his removal grow louder.

MUST READ: Why Africa Needs More Independent Media Outlets Like the Blogs…

Independent Media
Independent Media

I am a great admirer and supporter of Independent media such as blogs—and we need more of these in a place like Africa.

The big and established media houses like the BBC, CNN, RT and the others in the West play to the corporate interest a lot—in Africa such practice is far dangerous as most of the readers/viewers are not discerning enough to read in-between the lines.

I once told my friend; “if you ever want to hear the truth—read the independent blogs, forget the big shots.” It is not that the people who work for these big media houses do not have integrity, they do, but most of these media houses have compromised their positions because of certain interests and worldview.

My mate from law school who worked for one of the biggest media houses in UK recently quit her job to become a blogger. It’s a tough decision but she is full of smiles as her editor will no longer bin her articles, simply because, they cannot publish that about a hidden corporate sponsor and a friend of the media.

Islamic State Burns 20 Year Old Woman Alive For Refusing To Carry Out ‘Extreme Seks Act’

Atrocities committed by members of the Islamic State is nothing new anymore, but it doesn’t make the plight of those still suffering under their extreme religious vision any less grave.

A UN official who carried out special tours of refugee camps in Iraq and Syria came out with horrific tales of what’s happening to women in these war zones. It’s a list that’s as horrific as it is long.

On one occasion, they burned a 20 year old lady alive because she refused to carry out perveted sexual acts they required of her.

IB Times UK reports:

“Zainab Bangura, the United Nation’s special representative on sexual violence in war, recently conducted a tour of refugee camps in the midst of the conflicts in Syria and Iraq.

Yachts & Boats from Cannes

The 68th Cannes Film Festival came to an END over the weekend after several great films made it to the festival this year. As a film critic, my best film from this year’s Cannes is Pete Docter’s ‘Inside Out’.

While at Cannes, I walked pass the beautiful-expensive Yachts and Boats each day to the festival grounds and just as I did last year, I decided to capture some photos of these ‘small water houses’ for those who love them—and plan on buying one at the right time.

The ‘Jackie One’ yacht which I jokingly attributed to Ghanaian star actress-Jackie Appiah last year was still out there…

Check out the photos below…

GC Was Damn RIGHT | ECG Confirms They Have Disconnected 41 Properties At Red Row Estate for Illegal Connection & Non Payment of Bills Including that of Yvonne Nelson

Yvonne Nelson
Yvonne Nelson

Of course as Ghanaians, our sense of judgement is clouded by absurdity and affiliation—and I will continue to repeat this until we decided to employ critical thinking when an issue crops up.

Over the weekend, GhanaCelebrities.Com broke the news that,  the apartment of Yvonne Nelson at the Redrow Developments Limited’s estate at the East Legon Hills in Accra has been disconnected by ECG for running illegal power connections and non payment of bills together with others.

The important of this report is not just the 41 estate house which were disconnected for non-payment of bills and illegal connections but also, Yvonne Nelson together with the CEO of the same estate were key players of the recent #DumsorMustStop Vigil which was staged in Ghana—-as a protest against the power outages.

Beyond the illegality of this action, how can someone living in an apartment under illegal connection or non-payment of bills and another who is the CEO of an estate company operating 41 houses under illegal connection/non payment of bills match against power outages—when one of the problems of the power outages is the fact that ECG is in debt, affecting its efficient operation?

A Ghanaian does not pay her bills or lives under illegal connection and another has 41 houses running on illegal connection and yet, same Ghanaians go out there to protest against a problem partly caused by their own illegalities? This is epic hypocrisy and the many of this is why our country is deeply in an apocalyptic state.
