Bunso Arboretum Forest Reserve Closed Down After Canopy Walkway Accident That Injured 21

OMG

Until tragedy strikes, no one cares how bad things have become. But in the aftermath, everyone scrambles around to show how dedicated they are to tackle the challenges.

The Eastern Regional Minister Antwi Boasiako-Sekyere, has ordered that the Bonsu Arboretum Forest Reserve, the park that harbours the Bonsu Canopy Walkway, closed down.

This is after a disturbing event on Republic Day when one of the walkways collapsed, throwing all its occupants into the forest reserve below.

21 people are believed to have sustained varying degrees of injury, and are currently being treated in hospitals across the region.

One of the victims, a 14 year old boy, is said to have sustained a brain injury.

The tourists, where in the park for Republic Day celebrations, but instead almost met their deaths. The Minister has ordered for proper safety measures to be implemented before the park could be reopened.

The walkway is a two year old structure modelled after the famous one at Kakum National Park. One wonders how only a two year old structure has collapsed to cause all these mayhem, when the one at Kakum has been running for decades.

Obviously there was a fair bit of negligence going on at the park, and a proper investigation should be instigated to bring those at fault to book.

But it’s Ghana we’re talking about, after all.
