If you have such a record at the Los Angeles Staples Centre, there are few better candidates to bestow you a honour than the very symbol of the Lakers team.
Taylor Swift’s 1989 tour is breaking records all around, and she added another one during her latest performance at the Staples Centre. Playing the first of five already sold out shows at the venue, she received a surprise visitor onstage, who thankfully was not pulling a ‘Kanye’ this time.
Kobe Bryant unveiled a banner in the rafters of the arena honouring Swift for the 16 sold out shows. As Bryant pointed out, it’s coincidentally the same number of titles the Lakers have in the NBA.
“Sixteen is a very special number here in Los Angeles because 16 is the same amount of championships that we have as a Lakers franchise,” Bryant told the audience .
“To celebrate those championships, we do something very special. We hang banners. That’s what we do.”
