Ghana Movie Awards On Christmas Day: Can Agya Koo And Kyeiwaa Beat Majid Michel, Jackie Appiah & Co For The Cars? Full List Of My Predicted Winners…

blank

On Christmas Day, the Ghana Movie Awards will roll out at the Accra International Conference Centre. The award is dubbed the party of the season, this is because half of the seats at the venue has been allotted for the movie makers, that’s actors, actresses, directors, producers as well as behind the scene professionals and crews.

The awards scheme is put together to award excellence in the movie making industry in Ghana. The Ghana Movie Industry has seen a great improvement and it is appropriate that people who helped or people who are still helping are awarded for their great work.

There is no better time to award them than now. The venue will be filled with both crème la de crème from Nollywood and Ghana industry players. As we wait for the day to know who wins what, let me run through my predictions. Predictions are predictions, they don’t really come to pass so I don’t expect anybody to comment out of context, remember you are also free to predict.

In football, there is win, lose and draw but in this one, it’s only about two things; winners and those who will not win (I didn’t use losers for a reason, because the fact that you have been nominated means they are already a winner).

Winners of each category will win a statuettes and attractive packages from the sponsors but the Best Actor and the Best Actress drives home a new Zotye SUV.

So far as who wins the car is concerned, I think the competition will be between Majid Michel and Kofi Adu a.k.a. Agya Koo nominated in the Best Actor In A Lead Role English and Local Language category respectively.

In the Best Actress In A Lead Role in English and Local Language, Jackie Appiah and Rose Mensah a.k.a Kyeiwaa comes in mind. (Chris-Vincent Predicted Jackie Appiah in his post yesterday too)

Already major players as well as entertainment reporters have predicted the two Zoyte SUV to be won by the actors named above.

To ascertain where the SUV cars will finally go, after the Best Actor In A Lead Role and Best Actress In A Lead Role both English and Local Language is declared, a panel of 13 judges making the MAG Jury will vote immediately to select the Overall Best Actor and Overall Best Actress.

The above looks good and exciting for me and I know it does for you too. I can’t wait for tomorrow. Anyway, below is my prediction for tomorrow evening.

PREDICTIONS

A. BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE (ENGLISH)

1.      Senanu Gbedawu (Check Mate)

2. MAJID MICHEL (THE BEAST)*****

3.      J.O.T Agyemang (I Sing Of A Well)

4.      Prince Osei (Kiss Me If You Can)

5.      Eddie Nartey (Kiss Me If You Can)

6.      Van Vicker (DNA Test)

7.      Ruffy Samuel (Love & Lust)

For sometime now, MAJID MICHEL has been the best actor in Ghana. Though I don’t like the beast movie (It doesn’t make sense to me), I think this category is for him. If there is anybody to worry, it has to be J.O.T. Agyemang but don’t forget it’s a popularity award.

B. BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE (ENGLISH)

1. Martha Ankomah (Kiss Me If You Can)

2. Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu (I Sing Of A Well)

3. Ama Abebrese (Sinking Sands)

4. Lydia Forson (A Sting In A Tale)

5. Lucky Lawson (Desperate To Survive)

6. JACKIE APPIAH (4 PLAY) *****

7. Juliet Ibrahim (4 Play)

8. Yvonne Okoro (4 Play)

9. Roselyn Ngissah (4 Play)

Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu is the favourite but I have the feeling that the winner of this category will be from the 4 Play movie. If one person has to be picked as at ultimate winner, certainly JACKIE APPIAH stands tall and deserves to be crown Best Actress in Ghana.

———————————————————————————

C. BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE (LOCAL)

1. KOFI ADU A.K.A AGYA KOO (AMA GHANA) *****

2. Akwesi Boadi A.K.A Akrobetu (Sika Akuaba)

3. Francis Kusi (Yaa Asantewaa War)

4. Timothy Bentum (Devil’s Seed)

5. Ebenezer Donkor (Madam Moke)

After the death of Bob Santo, I am sure he handed the baton to Agya Koo. I’m “confidently sure” that KOFI ADU A.K.A AGYA KOO will win this one for himself and for Ama Ghana movie. No disrespect, there is no competition for him now.

———————————————————————————

D. BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE (LOCAL)

1. ROSE MENSAH A.K.A KYEIWAA *****

2. Emelia Brobbery (Tumi)

3. Vivian Jill (Ama Ghana)

4. Mercy Asiedu (Abrokyire Beyie)

5. Theresah Mensah (Yaa Asantewaa War)

To think Mercy Asiedu will win this category will draw laughter. ROSE MENSAH OR AKUA ATTA A.K.A KYEIWAA has no competition in this category. She should be thinking of her message when she is called to pick this award.

——————————————————————————–

E. BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE (ENGLISH)

1. John Dumelo (Game)

2. Ekow Blankson (Check Mate)

3. Ekow Smith Asante (Naked Faces)

4. Kofi Adjorlolo (Beast)

5. ADJETEY ANANG (A STING IN A TALE) *****

6. Kweku Sintim Misa (Check Mate)

7. Omar Sheriff Captan (4 Play)

8. Gavivina Tamakloe (Black Mail)

9. Chris Attoh (Sinking Sands)

I do have a problem with this category; I have three people in mind, John Dumelo, Kofi Adjorlolo and Adjetey ‘Pusher’ Anang. John is popular, Kofi has been Ghana’s best actor (though he his a stereotype actor) and Adjetey Anang has been Ghana’s natural actor. I will close my eyes and say ADJETEY ‘PUSHER’ ANANG will win it. But I have the feeling John Dumelo will take it home.

———————————————————————————

F. BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE (ENGLISH)

1. NADIA BUARI (CHECK MATE) *****

2. Yvonne Nelson (Game)

3. Beverly Afaglo (Game)

4. Rama Brew (Who Loves Me)

5. Kalsum Sinare (Trinity)

6. Naa Ashorkor (Check Mate)

7. Khareema Aguiar (Check Mate)

8. Nana Hayford (Beast)

9. Doris Sackitey (Sinking Sands)

Khareema Aguiar was my favourite in the Check Mate. I love her in that movie. I (who am I though) gave Nadia thumps up in Check Mate. I thought she was superb in that movie too. On 25th December, NADIA BUARI will be Ghana’s Best Supporting Actress. Yvonne Nelson cannot pose any threat whatsoever.

———————————————————————————

G. BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORING ROLE (LOCAL)

1. Kofi Davis Essuman (Adults Only)

2. Ofori Attah (Awieye)

3. CLEMENT BONNEY A.K.A. (AMA GHANA) *****

4. Kofi Laing (Ama Ghana

5. Lord Kenya (Devil’s Seed)

6. Samuel Ofori (Akrasi Burger)

7. William Addo (Madam Moke)

This category is one of the easiest to be won. CLEMENT BONNEY A.K.A. MR. BEAUTIFUL should pick this home without any problems. No competition at all. No wonder he is full of confident.

———————————————————————————

H. BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE (LOCAL)

1. Nana McBrown (Madam Moke)

2. Barbara Newton (Abrokyire Bayie)

3. Pearl Kugblenu (Devil’s Seed)

4. Alexis Ntsiakoh (Abrokyire Bayie)

5. Gloria Osei Safo (Madam Moke)

Text your favourite (i.e. H1 – H1) to 1788

I like the Alexis Ntsiakoh girl but I think this is another easy category. NANA AMA MCBROWN should to back to Kumasi with this one.

———————————————————————————

I. BEST WRITING – ADAPTED OR ORIGINAL SCREEN PLAY

1. Leila Djansi (I Sing Of A Well)

2. Leila Djansi (Sinking Sands)

3. Shirley Frimpong Manso (A Sting In Tale)

4. Benjamin K. Adu (Ama Ghana)

5. KOBBI RANA (KISS ME IF YOU CAN) *****

I know Shirley Frimpong Manso and Leila Djansi are the favourites for this one. But I just hope KOBBI RANA (CORNELIUS PHANTHOMAS) take it home. Kiss Me If You Can did not get the same promotion enjoyed by Shirley and Leila’s movie but I think it wasn’t a mistake that it’s nominated here.

———————————————————————————

J. BEST VISUAL EFFECT

1. BARRY ISA QUAYE (FLASH FEVER) *****

2. Afra Marley (Game)

3. Ken Attoh (A Sting In A Tale)

4. Godfrey Grant (A Sting In A Tale)

5. Kalifa Adams (Devil’s Seed)

I thought Flash Fever was tight. Watching it like watching a horror movie. But did I hear anybody talk about popularity? If so, then Afra Marley will take this home. I am going for Barry Isa Quaye (Flash Fever). The effects in the Game movie are so annoying.

———————————————————————————

K. BEST WARDROBE

1. MABEL GERMAIN (SINKING SANDS) *****

2. Lydia Laryea (A Sting In A Tale)

3. Samira Yakubu (Black Mail)

4. George Atoba (Ama Ghana)

This category, I think is strictly between Mabel Germain for Sinking Sands and Samira Yakubu for Black Mail. However, I think MABEL GERMAIN should pick this home.

———————————————————————————

L. BEST ORIGINAL SONG

1. Who Loves Me (Wutah)

2. Delilah (Ofori Amponsah)

3. Kiss Me If You Can (Rana)

4. A Sting In A Tale (VIP)

5. Ama Ghana (Patrick Adu)

6. Game (Bisa)

7. A Sting In A Tale (4×4)

8. Chelsea (Dasebre Dwamena)

I did not pay particular attention to the song when watching these movies. However, I fee the best person should win this one.

———————————————————————————

M. BEST DIRECTING (ENGLISH)

1. SHIRLEY FRIMPONG MANSO (A STING IN A TALE) *****

2. Kobbi Rana (Kiss Me If You Can)

3. Leila Djansi (Sinking Sands)

4. Patrick Yadaah (Dna Test)

5. Socrate Safo (Adults Only)

Hmmm! I wish I can say no to this category but wait this is just a prediction. Leila Djansi is on my mind but SHIRLEY FRIMPONG MANSO will add this to Sparrow Production’s repertoire. But I will be happy of Kobbi Rana steals this award also.

———————————————————————————

N. BEST DIRECTING (LOCAL)

1. Omar Sheriff Captan (Delilah)

2. Asare Bediako (Tumi)

3. FRANK GHARBIN (AMA GHANA) *****

4. Albert Kudovu (Abrokyire Bayie)

5. Kweku Twumasi (Yaa Asantewaa)

I didn’t know Omar Sheriff Captan is now a director. Good to know, Ghana is having young directors. For a movie to be good enough to top the Ghana Movie Awards nominations means the director is also good, right? Yes I’m going in for the director of Ama Ghana, FRANK GHARBIN the movie which topped the nominations.

———————————————————————————

O. BEST EDITING

1. AFRA MARLEY (GAME) *****

2. AFRA MARLEY (TRINITY) *****

3. Nana A. Manso (A Sting In A Tale)

4. Fred Agyepong (Flash Fever)

Shirley’s sister did pretty good in A Sting In A Tale movie and for someone like me, it won’t go unnoticed. But AFRA MARLEY will win this one either with the Game or Trinity. I like his editing but don’t fancy the annoying effects.

———————————————————————————

P. BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

1. BOB J (CHECK MATE) *****

2. BOB J (A STING IN A TALE) *****

3. Prince Nyarko (Ama Ghana)

4. Samuel Gyandoh (Chelsea)

I smiled when they announced this category. I knew the late BOB J will win it. I met him only once, a week to this death. Even before his death, people said good things about him. So I’m not surprised that he’s gone and they are still singing the praises.

———————————————————————————

Q. DISCOVERY OF THE YEAR

1. EMOIMOGEN HOGEN [TRINITY] *****

2. Joshua Sarpong [Ama Ghana]

3. Nadia Acha-Kang [Game]

4. Diana Pealore [Beast]

I’m not obsessed with fair looking girls but what disqualified Diana Pealore is the movie, Beast. It just doesn’t make sense at all to me. For Nadia Acha-King, I think she overacts and shouts too much. If EMOIMOGEN HOGEN doesn’t win this one. I will have serious problems with the organizers. This little girl about 10 played Nadia Buari’s daughter in Trinity. Imagine a girl of her age interrogating a Police man. It was interesting. I hear she is based in South Africa now, then she must go back with this award.

———————————————————————————

R. BEST MAKE UP

1. Lydia (Trinity)

2. Jude Odeh (Ama Ghana)

3. Jane A. Williams (Check Mate)

4. RUTH MENSAH (I SING OF A WELL) *****

5. Lyrdyna Abuhipsah (Beast)

I didn’t really see any serious make ups in these movies. Jude Odeh is a known make up artist who has done some amazing make ups over the years, if he doesn’t win this then I will go for RUTH MENSAH, make up artist for I SING OF A WELL.

———————————————————————————

S. BEST PICTURE

1. Ama Ghana

2. I Sing Of A Well

3. SINKING SANDS *****

4. A Sting In A Tale

5. Chelsea

6. Check Mate

I bet you, if Leila Djansi’s Sinking Sands doesn’t pick this one. She will be discouraged from bringing down Hollywood crews to shoot more movies. I’m sure Shirley Frimpong Manso will eye this one but its looks like SINKING SANDS will steal this.

———————————————————————————

T. BEST STORY

1. Who Loves Me

2. SINKING SANDS *****

3. A Sting In A Tale

4. Game

We all have our definition as to what a good or best story is. I know best story doesn’t necessary mean a good movie. With ‘Who Loves Me’ I think its normal for people to fake to know who really loves them. In ‘A Sting In A Tale’, we know to what extent people can go to make money when searching for a job proves futile. It is also normal for people to try to kill their siblings because of their selfishness, which makes the ‘Game’ story a normal one. It just doesn’t tickle my fantasy.

‘Sinking Sands’ story is not a common story. There are lots of abusive stories but this one is not the common overemphasized maltreatment at home.

———————————————————————————

U. BEST ART DIRECTION

1. Game

2. Check Mate

3. SINKING SANDS *****

4. Ama Ghana

——————————————————————————————

V. BEST ACTOR / WEST AFRICA COLLABORATION

1. Yemi Blaq (Sinking Sands)

2. Ramsey Noah (Guilty Pleasures)

3. Desmond Elliot (Guilty Pleasures)

4. Uti Nkwachukwu (Busting Out)

I’m not a fan of Nollywood movies but indeed when I’m to recommend any movie from Nigeria, I will go for ‘Guilty Pleasures’. The movie features Ghana’s Majid Michel. I think it’s the best Nigerian movie I have watched in recent time. You can’t compare Yemi Blaq’s performance in ‘Sinking Sands’ to Ramsey in ‘Guilty Pleasures’. This one is a cool chop for RAMSEY NOUAH JNR. If there is a shock package, then it’s not from this category.

———————————————————————————

W. BEST ACTRESS / WEST AFRICA COLLABORATION

1. Genevieve Nnaji (Silent Scandal)

2. NSE IKPE NTIM (GUILTY PLEASURES) *****

3. Tonto Dikeh (Love & Lust)

4. Uche Jumbo (Nollywood Hustlers)

5. Omotola Jalade (Private Storm)

6. Mercy Johnson (Shakira)

One of the reasons I like the ‘Guilty Pleasure’ movie is because of Nse Ikpe Ntim. I didn’t try calling her by her name when I saw her last time in Accra. The reason was I didn’t want to bite my tongue, yeah right. It was my first time watching Nse in a movie and I instantly liked her. She is natural and expressive.

She made me watch the movie over and over again. I know Ghanaians are familiar with Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde but I’m tipping NSE IKPE NTIM. Such a lovely actress.

———————————————————————————

X. BEST MOVE / AFRICAN COLLABORATION

1. Sinking Sands

2. Guilty Pleasures

3. Love & Lust

4. Private Storm

5. Bursting Out

It’s Guilty Pleasure! Guilty Pleasure!! Guilty Pleasure!!! Period

——————————————————————————–

Y. BEST MUSIC SCORE

1. Game

2. Ama Ghana

3. A Sting In A Tale

4. Kiss Me If You Can

5. 4 PLAY *****

6. Sinking Sands

I just love the creativity in this song from the 4 PLAY movie.

  1. oops Merry Xmas….anyway the prdictions are good. the que omale song in 4Play deserve some wins and also Emoimogen Hogen too….but if Majid wins I’ll be pissed he has done far better work.

I also think Afra Marely is Ghana’s best kept secret in editing, Ive seen tons of his music videos and glad he proved his chops in The Game and Trinity …I like what you said about the Adjetey Anang vrs Kofi Ajorlolo its like night and day if Ajetey does not win i’d be shocked.

Many haters with try to discredit some of these stars but the are undeniably the best! I hope Majid Michel and jackie Appiah comes tops cos they really deserve it and represent Ghana worldwide. They have gone very far and are still representing! Kudos to all the nominees especially these gems!!!!
