The wife of Michael Essien, Akosua Puni, is ready to venture into football management.
Puni has purchased the Italian third division side Como Calcio at auction, placing the winning bid of €237,000.
The club went bankrupt under its previous owners and was placed up to be picked up by the highest bidder, which turned out to be Essien’s long time publicist/spouse.
Como put up an official press release to confirm the purchase by Akosua Puni.
“Mrs. Puni Essien and her team will soon be in our city to meet the fans and supporters of the Club. In the meantime, they intend to let you know that they are honored to be here, in Como, and become part of a club which boasts 110 years of history,” the statement read, in part.
Como plays in Lega Pro, the third tier of Italian football after Serie A and Serie B.
Essien, who has been married to Akosua Puni since 2013 – was recently in the news himself, after completing an €800,000 one year deal to join Indonesian side Persib Bandung.
