The 2019 VGMA awards, which is the 20th edition of the scheme, is gathering a lot of heat ahead of Saturday night when it comes off.

One aspect generating a lot of debate is the 20th anniversary special ‘Artist of the Decade Award‘, which was introduced to award the best Ghanaian star over the past decade.

The category pits Ghanaian’s most favourite stars against one another for a recognition which would certainly boost the winner’s reputation up a notch. Stonebwoy, Samini, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Joe Mettle, No Tribe, Efya, Okyeame Kwame, R2Bees and Becca are all in competition for the honour.

Making the case for himself, dancehall legend Samini says he should be given the award for best artist of the past decade.

Samini said: “I have been around for more than a decade and I have been relevant. Ever since I dropped Linda in 2006 till now, I have constantly come out with good songs and I think I deserve to win the Artiste of the Decade.”
