HOT SHOTS: OMG! Is That Juliet Ibrahim or Kim Kardashian?

Juliet Ibrahim1

From these photos, the debate has been settled and we believe Ghanaian actress-Juliet Ibrahim was right when she said she is far beautiful and HOTTER than Kim Kardashian

Pushing Kim Kardashian to the corner, Juliet Ibrahim has successfully shown that when it comes to the backside that Kim makes a lot of noise about, she has a firm one—and her CAKES are real, nothing artificial has touched it.

Promoting her Accra based Boutique-House of Glamour in Osu, the mother of one with a BANGING body defines her body contours with a crop top and skirt which is currently selling hot at her Boutique.

To compliment her look, Juliet Ibrahim stands on a pair of shoes she told GhanaCelebrities.Com she bought from Totalwrap Closet…

And to perfectly pull in the bad girl look, Juliet went in for a MAC Riri woo lipstick.

Ghanaian Celebrities & Promo Photos, What Are They Really Promoting? | Bodies for Sale?

After nearly a decade of chasing and following celebrities around as work—and having done PR for several celebrities, I still seem lost with the concept of promo photos when it comes to our Ghanaian Celebrities…

Interestingly, each week I get some tacky lingerie or badly photo-shopped photos from at least one Ghanaian female celebrity with the heading; Promo Photos.  Mostly, a meaningless paragraph is written to go with these photos which fail to state what the photos are promoting—and at this point, we can all make assumptions from looking at some of the photos what is being promoted.

Without any imminent work to be released and a well branded personality to be promoted, some of our female celebrities pose in sexually provoking manner, equating their career/status to that of porn stars if you have no prior knowledge of what they claim to do. And the little paragraph they add to these pictures does nothing more than to sell their bodies.

Don’t get me wrong. The concept of ‘promo photos’ is a perfect advertisement scheme employed mostly by entertainers and the hospitality industry to throw attention to projects, services or soon to be released products. But when there is nothing at stake to be promoted except some lousy photoshop images and ‘butt in the air’ postures which only help define you as an individual selling your body than anything else, then there is a problem.

As the Editor of GhanaCelebrities.Com, I run several promo photos ahead of interviews. For instance, any time we interview a celebrity, we take several great shots and before the interview is published, we post these photos to whet the appetite of our readers in relation to the pending interview. That is a perfectly promo photo concept.

If a musician has an album, single, wedding or any project coming up, that musician can justifiably release some NEAT promo photos to bring attention to the pending cause—and it must be noted that, the photos must reflect the cause or seek to do so.

What we see in Ghana are shameless photos without any accompanying text to even indicate what is being promoted—where our celebrities open their legs wide for cameras in the name of promo.

Light Skin Rules Because All The Dark Skin People & Activists Are ‘Bleaching’ Their Photos…

Yvonne-Okoro
Yvonne Okoro

I am a light skin chick—as some of my male friends prefer to disrespectfully call me when I am not around. But the truth is, I am light skin and I am proud to be so.

I do not go about talking down or disrespecting anyone just because the person is dark skin—and I do not believe I am the most beautiful person in my group simply because I am fair in complexion.

Also, I do not see the need to reinforce and paint in the mind of people that light skin is beautiful and we must celebrate that.

However, each day in my life, I come across a person working tireless to tell people like me that, we are not superior to those with dark skin—and I don’t remember anyone saying we are.

Though the truth may hurt, I have come to realize a growing inherent complexity with dark skin people. No one is running a race yet they continue to run and in doing so, they try to make light skin people feel bad.

If you believe your colour is the best and beautiful, you do not need anyone to keep reminding you of this, so you can feel good about yourself without belittling the other person.

Probably, it is the increasing trend of bleaching among the dark skin which has ignited this campaign of ‘help save the dark skin’—leading to unnecessary attacks on innocent light skin chicks like me.

I do not have to say a word and the moment I enter a room, a dark skin person will whisper at the far end of the room; she thinks she is beautiful because of her colour… Really? When did I say anything? I just entered…

You do not build up high self-esteem by simply seeking to make someone feel worst, especially when the person does not care about you and has not signed up for any sort of competition with you and your colour.

It is not a mere coincidence that despite the numerous attempts to fly dark skin, even the campaigners continue to cherish and plant the notion of light skin supremacy in the minds of the same people they seek to protect—through the use of countless image colouring techniques and filters on social media.

Leila Djansi Says Her Biggest REGRET In Life is Investing/Making Films in Ghana

Leila Djansi
Leila Djansi

Few year’s ago-Leila Djansi stated categorically that she was tired of the useless Ghanaian movie industry and was not going to make any more movies in Ghana…

In fact, she disappeared—only for some few months and came back again. She is a Ghanaian and has the right to go and come, do business in Ghana including making films like others do.

But what is the point of her constant display of hypocrisy? At the beginning, some of us thought she was expressing genuine concerns about the state of the Ghanaian movie industry but her utterances suggest otherwise.

Today, she took to her facebook to say; her biggest regret is investing/making films in Ghana—something she said some years back. And yet, came back to invest more…

Whatever it is, we think Leila has to take the chill pill and learn to shut up sometimes—since the industry will survive without or without her.

If You Want to Be Known as a Great Actor/Actress, Avoid Over-Commercialization| Using Martha Ankomah & Lydia Forson as a Case Study

Lydia-Forson1
Lydia Forson

First of all, let me make it clear that I respect both Martha Ankomah and Lydia Forson for their talent—therefore using their unfortunate situations as a case study does not have any element of contempt.

I met Martha Ankomah somewhere last year at Alisa Hotel, Accra and she was full of positive energy and smiles. Similarly, Lydia Forson has a great personality and an extensive realistic view on several world issues, though some are unnecessarily entrenched. I have had some great conversations with her in the past and as a Nigerian will say ‘I respect her hustle’.

Now that the above has been made clear, let’s look at how our actors/actresses can make the best out of their talent, passion and craft without falling into the African disease pot of “being everywhere but known for nothing great”.

The Over-commercialization of  Martha Ankomah Being a Taint on Her Talent

If you’ve seen any of Martha Ankomah’s movies, you would notice that despite the fact that she is always surrounded by several talentless actors/actresses, her raw excellence consistently stands out.

Martha Ankomah is a great actress at the raw state and needed rough edge touches by some of the great Directors who have clear understanding of film-making but she couldn’t wait for this to happen.  She couldn’t say ‘NO’ to some of the most senseless scripts and literally took up every offer that came her way.

We are seeing the end result today, which is; Martha Ankomah has countless movies to her but none does justice to her immense talent. She is not regarded in any different light; she is just like the many ‘can’t act’ actresses we see on our screens daily.

Over-commercialization has killed her talent, vision and the chance of becoming one of Ghana’s greatest.

I am sure she has over 100 movies to her name but which one can we remember as a great piece?

Why I Don’t Like Shirley Frimpong Manso’s New Movie-DEVIL IN THE DETAIL

Devil in the Detail4
Devil in the Detail

I did not sit down to watch Shirley Frimpong Manso’s much talked about movie-Devil in the Detail, hoping that it will be great—because we all agree that there wasn’t  even that minuscule probability that the movie was going to be short of her consistent outstanding delivery.

If anything at all, I knew it was going to be an improvement on the previous production-POTOMANTO since this has become conventional of the multiple-award winning Director. When you think she has hit the glass ceiling, she surprises you and come flying through. Therefore, my total mindset was to find those things that will make me not like the movie and to be frank, the fact that I watched the movie twice is an indication that I failed.

The reason why I sat down hoping to spot those things which will shake my conviction in the Shirley Frimpong Manso and Ken Attoh’s combined excellence is, that as a writer/critic it is easier to point out weakness than strengths—so I was looking for the easiest way out.

But I got served…

Storyline

Thinking about the many over recycled romantic thriller and drama storylines, ‘Devil in the Detail’ points to the fact that, there is no justification whatsoever for the many closely related and refurnished stories African movies dwell on—as a result of writers inability to be creative with ideas.

The writers-Ken Attoh and Shirley Frimpong must have put a lot of thinking into the story, depicting a close but reverse connection between how women and men deal with relationships—especially when these relationships are extra marital.

Instead of sticking to the traditional African movie theme of splashing the marginal error of judgement on mostly the men, the writers successfully cast a stone at the man-Adjetey Anang and the woman-Nse Ikpe Etim to find out their hidden weakness.

VALS DAY EDITION: The Split of the Mind | While Women Are Thinking & Talking About Love, Men Are Thinking & Talking About TONGA…

Run up Show
Chris-Vincent and Rastaman 1Plus

Valentine’s Day does not seem to be going anywhere soon. The commercial success of the day means that, it has come to stay with us—despite several men finding this day unnecessary.

I took an hour out this morning to check out what my friends on Facebook & Twitter had to say about Vals Day—and interestingly, while my female friends were talking and preaching love, the men were talking about TONGA.

One of my friends wrote; “Today, Tonga will suffer paa” and another tweeted, “I will destroy someone’s daughter’s Tonga tonight”. Several of my male friends retweeted  an image with the message “Crucify any TONGA which will  try to be smart by pouring out blood tonight!

To the majority of my social media men friends, it seems Vals Day is all about the TONGA, with some even calling it the TONGA Day. But the women seem to have a different and soft understanding of Vals Day.

For this edition of the RUN UP SHOW, I sat down with my pal-Rastaman Iplus to look at the meaning of Valentine’s Day in the minds of both men and women—using certain social media comments as the starting point.

And this Rastaman really had a lot to say about how women are using Valentine’s Day to milk the men.

Watch the video below….After which, you can tell us what you think about Vals Day & What you will be doing today.

Smart Phones Are Indeed Getting the Best of Our Human Relationships

The Jonathan Ross Show
The Jonathan Ross Show

From TopVincent.Com

Last week, I was at ITV studios in London as one of the many Londoners who made up a rousing audience for ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’.

Apart from the excitement that filled the auditorium when actor-Liam Neeson, Peter Andre, Oscar Award winner-Goldie Hawn and Danny Dyer were drilled by Ross, I left the recording of the Show with more than a great performance from Pixie Lott.

During one of the interviews, Jonathan Ross talked about how many of us cannot let go our smart phones, even when we are at dinners with friends or family. Interestingly, he pointed himself out as one of such people who cannot let go their phones—even for few minutes.

The guest on the Show at the time-Danny Dyer quickly noted that ‘our smart phones’ are taking over our relationships. He added that, because many people are unable to leave their smart phones for more than 30 minutes; his friends have come out with this ‘troubling idea’ of collecting all phones and putting them on a table when they go out for dinners or drinks. And that, whoever picks his phone first from the table pays the bill of the evening …

Jonathan Ross jumped in to say, he would have to always pay the bill if he was in the circle since he can’t let his phone off his sight—something the Mrs detest.

My point is; if you thought you were the only person who has noticed how people are glued to their phones, paving way for technology to define our relationships, then you are wrong—most people are aware of this just that they cannot seem to let go the bad habit.

Even if a person is able to force himself to disconnect from his mobile phone, you will catch see the same person scrolling through things on the ipad.

Lupita N’yongo: What Our Ghanaian Actresses Can Learn From Her

Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o

The whole world is raving about her at the moment. This simple, classy, educated, and highly intelligent woman has shown us in order to stand out in whatever field you endeavour in, there are certain qualities or characteristics you must have or aspire to have.

Comparing this incredible woman’s career to that of our fellow Ghanaian actresses, there is an incredible amount of difference in even just the way she comports herself. We can confidently say that the ‘12 years a slave’ actress has made an indelible mark for herself and we can’t wait for more from her!.

Comparing the story of Lupita to her fellow counterparts in the Ghanaian movie Industry, there are few tips they can pick up because Lupita’s feat can also be achieved by them—-after all, she is also an African.

Get an education– Lupita knew that she wanted a career in the film and arts industry, as such she made sure she acquired the necessary skills and knowledge by going to school. Even though she might have had a respected level of natural talent, she knew the importance of educating herself. After obtaining a degree in film and theatre studies, she subsequently enrolled in the acting program at the Yale school of drama, to further deepen her knowledge in the arts.

Is Life Worth All The Struggles & Exponential Greed? Think Komla Dumor!

Komla Dumor
Komla Dumor

From TopVincent.Com

Yesterday a fast rising Ghanaian broadcast journalist and one of the few contemporary shining stars of Africa-Komla Dumor died at the age of 41—shocking almost everyone who knew of his name, works and passion.

As many of us continue to muddle in sadness and confusion as to what must have really ended the life of such a good man on the road to greatness, extensive prosperity and success, one question we ought to keep close is;  is life worth all the struggles and exponential greed?

Over the last 20 hours, I’ve come in contact with several people who have seen the need to re-evaluate their lives, following Komla Dumor’s death.

When I heard of the death, the first thing I said to myself was; I hope he was a happy man who had inner peace and joy, who did not postpone a lot of the things he wanted to do in life.

Many of us are currently living as if we control tomorrow, pushing all the good things we want to experience to the future, while embracing ourselves for today’s struggle.  It may sound wise to say, I will work all I can and when I am old, I will do the things I so much want to do—like travel around the world, spend more time with friends and family.

But the biggest pot hole in the above is the fact that, you are not guaranteed tomorrow, all you are certain of is today. Therefore, why must we endure just hardship, struggles and pain today with the hope that we will be sitting in the world of happiness in the future, when we do not really know if the future will meet us?

Defamation Is Far From What You Think | Being A Celebrity SUCKS!

law_book2
Celebrity & Law-Defamation

After nearly a decade of dealing with African Celebrities, I’ve come to realize that despite the strict legal requirements that must be satisfied to establish defamation (both libel and slander),  our African Celebrities just throw into the air ‘Defamation’ when they’ve not been defamed and have no case—legally.

From my experience, it is obvious that our Celebrities think publications which are not favourable to them, expose them, undermine their status or attack their actions/personality fit the box of defamation, even if the writer is merely expression an opinion or honestly believed his publication to be true.

In the ordinary world, it’s easy to establish defamation compared to when the subject concerned is a celebrity (public figure). Therefore, what may be defamation when slapped on the face of the ordinary man next door may not be defamation when said about a celebrity…

What is defamation at all?

According to the English case of Sim v Stretch, defamation is a false statement of fact that exposes a person to hatred, ridicule, contempt or which tends to lower him in the esteem of right thinking persons of society.

Based on the above, statements that are merely offensive, such as, Nadia Buari smells badly will not be sufficient to be termed as defamatory.
